Bitter Ronaldo

Tuesday, 20 March 07, 09:48 PM

When Ronaldo started playing, he didn’t hide his great idol in world football was Zico. Time goes by and now I read an interview to spanish paper As and got really surprised to notice that three best players he has ever seen are Zidane, Van Basten and Maradona.

I would understand Ronaldo’s new point of view if I had not heard him repeating his admiration for Zico. He didn't mention Romário too, a great partner years ago in brazilian national team.

Zico is among the best brazilian players of all time. His greatness is undeniable and he will always be remembered by his sharpness and wonderful speed. He is the player who made the little Ronaldo dreamed about being a star. But it looks like he was abandoned by his former fan.

Romario is going to score his goal number 1000 and I haven’t heard a word from Ronaldo. Milan’s forward is quiet and has not sent a message to congratulate him. Even Pelé did it. In this case, there is an explanation.

After France 1998, Romario expected Ronaldo’s support before he was cut out of the national squad by Zagallo. It didn’t happen at all.

Since Ronaldo was elected best player of the world for the third time, something has change in his personality. He is not smiling anymore and became a bitter man. If you boo him because, he complains about it. He is sacked by an important match and reacts blaming the coach. Brazil’s presidente jokes about his weigh and Ronaldo calls him a drunker.

In fact, the Fat One acts like a little child. The youngest brother who is always trying to get attention from his parents. He never addmits his weakness, but reacts excessively angry with anyone who try to give him a piece of advise.

Ronaldo doesn’t need to act like that. He’s a world champion and now holds a personal record as the greatest World Cup scorer of all times. He is only 30, has money, a lot of money, and is widely recognized by people around the world.

So, what’s the matter with him?

996, 997, 998

Sunday, 18 March 07, 06:57 PM

Romario scored a hat trick last Saturday against Boa Vista, his third of this year. Now he just need another two goals to reach his number 1000 and crowned his amazing career.

There a lot of people blaming against him because of his own records. At first, I didn’t believe this mark should be taken serious as well, since he included goals scored in friendlies and youth team matches.

But now I'm supporting Romario's unnofficial mark. His numbers at a professional leve are incredible: 900 goals. Plus 77 goals as youth and 21 in frindlies and you have 998.

Instead it is a wonderful achievement for someone, especially a guy who won everything a professional player could dreamed about. The 41-year-old Romario deserves to celebrate it the Maracana stadium.
