Rennes have rejected a 'good offer' from Everton for midfielder Stephane M'Bia.
The Cameroon international has been linked with a move to Goodison Park for much of the summer and has expressed his desire for a deal to be pushed through.
David Moyes has struggled to bring in new faces during the transfer window and has now had a bid turned down by the French club.
Rennes have made it clear they wish to keep M'Bia and general manager Pierre Dreossi hopes he will agree a new deal.
"We have received a good offer from Everton but we are not selling," Dreossi told AFP.
"We are going to seek a financial accord with Stephane so he can stay another year."
Everton's offer for the 22-year-old was reported to be in the region of ten million euros (£8million).
M'Bia returned from the Olympics with an injury but has been included in the squad to face Norwegian side Stabaek in Uefa Cup qualifying on Thursday night.
