Codina Confident Of Robinho Stay

Real Madrid’s third choice goalkeeper Jordi Codina says that he is positive Robinho will remain a merengue, despite increasing rumours of a possible exit.

Speaking to Realmadrid.com in a press conference before departing for Germany for their last pre-season friendly against Eintracht Frankfurt, Jordi Codina offered his views on a number of subjects, including his own physical state prior to the kick-off  for the new campaign.

“I felt good on the pitch. I hadn’t played since last season because an injury prevented me from playing the previous three friendlies. But I felt very comfortable and there was no sign of a relapse,” he explained in reference to his second half debut against Santa Fe in a friendly last week.

The conversation invariably turned to the transfer market, where two of Madrid’s Brazilians have been busy hitting the headlines in recent weeks.

“Julio is still here, but we will support him if he decides to leave. But now, he plays with us and he will do so until decided otherwise,” he said of Julio Baptista, who is on the verge of a move to AS Roma.

When asked if Robinho has looked unhappy lately in the Madrid squad, Codina replied: “I have never seen him sad. He is always one of the happiest players in the squad. I am sure he will stay and I hope for many years to come.”

Finally, the 26 year old ‘keeper gave his review of new boy Rafa van der Vaart’s debut last week against Santa Fe in Colombia.

“He seemed a bit nervous at first, but he settled down, scored and provided a goal assist. He did great,” Codina raved.
