Greece vs. Sweden - Live Commentary!

Tuesday, 10 June 08, 01:20 PM · Comments(0)

90' (+3): It's over. Zlatan Ibrahimovic led Sweden to victory with an amazing opening goal that saved this match from being the second most boring of this first round.

89': All right ... The referee announced three minutes of stoppage time to be added

86': 4 minutes to the end. Greece had an opportunity to score a consolation goal but the hard-angled shot is blocked

81': Free kick for Sweden.

78': Wilhelmsson leaves the pitch after pulling a muscle and Rosenberg steps in

78': If Greece were playing a good match there would still be time for at least fight to tie this one. But the defensive, consevative style of football they demosntrated tonight will only take them to one place: back to HELLAS.

71': GGGOOOAAAALLLL for Sweden!!!! an ungly one this time... but Hey, a goal is a goal, right ... just ask Hansson... the defender put it in after Ljungberg misses the clear shot

70': Ibrahimovic leaves the pitch ovationed by the yellow crowd. Elmander comes in

69': From an almost wasted match to an amazing goal!!! That's when a top class player can make all the difference

67': GGGGOOOOAAAALLLLL ..... Zlatan Ibrahimovic ... Finally an amazing playthat ends up with a BEAUTIFUL shot by Ibra!!!

65': Greece had another great opportunity... This might be the match of the inefficient finishes

62': Greece just had the best possibility but Karagounis didn't have the speed to continue the run and tried to shoot. And the shot was blocked.

60': Another booking for Greece. Torosidis

60': A extremely unattractive match. You can tell that players from both teams are feeling the weight of the years on their backs.

54': ...and another wasted chance

54':

54': Free kick for the Greek now. The defender sends it for a corner

52': Zlatan takes the shot... and the ball flies over the bar after being deflected

51': Bad bad bad tackle by Seitaridis. Ljunberg goes down. Foul. Yellow Card

48': Corner for Sweden. cleared by the Greek defense but the ball is played back by Sweden and the had the chance to put this in. The finish was bad though

45': A substitution for Greece: Number 7 Samaras replaces the ineffective 17 Gekas.

45' (+1):

Wilhelmsoon just got his ass literally kicked before the end of first half... and that's it for the first 45'...

The chat room is much more interesting than the match itself

44': Great shot by Basinas ... Isaksoon puts it out for a corner ...

44': Zlatan is down!!! It could be his bad knee? or just Zlatan being a diva??? Oh,... just saw the replay... It hurt... ouch!

39': Sweden is having a hard time to break Greece's wall of 5 defenders. It can be a dangerous situation for the Swedish team if Greece manages to attract them and the get one breakthrough counter attack with Gekas or Charisteas

33': Great chance for Zlatan!!!! The ball is lifted in the box and he managed to head it... The ball goes past the keeper but also beats the goal and goes over the bar

30': Corner for Sweden...

30': The match is not necessarily boring but it's just not a very attractive one to watch. not a lot of creativity and productive runnings

23': Ibrahimovic tries something fancy on the right side but just not quite good... Easy for the Greek defense

22': oh, maybe not

22': Another corner for Sweden... Let's go Sveridge!!!

17': Both teams start to move players up a little bit no. They still do it with a certain caution but it's certainly not as boring as Romania vs. France

17': Wilhelmsson had a great chance to score... He looked offside but the flag didn't go up... he slams the ball right on Nikopolidis. No goal

10': Great shot by Sweden ... The ball went flying next to the right post

6': Great play by Charisteas. He shows that he wants more than a yellow card from this match. He takes the shot from the top right side of the box. But the keeper Isaksson saves it.

3': Sweden with the initiative in the beginning of the match. Two corners back to back that forced Greece's defense to work.

2': Charisteas already got something from the match. A Yellow Card at the second minute

0': Here we go ... the second match of the day... Greece vs. Sweden... I think it all depends on Ibrahimovic, Laarson and Ljunberg for the Swedish and Charisteas, Karagounis and of course, Gekas for Greece

Before Kick Off: I hope for a good match but I'm afraid I could be very boring one. Can Ibrahimovic NOT be a diva a play his best football?
