Play Efficiently wins GOLD, Play Beautifully goes home with silver (or Don't Cry for me Argentina)

Monday, 16 July 07, 05:10 PM

My last post on this Copa America couldn't illustrate better what I've
been saying all this time: "football is a game full of surprises in
which the best team DOES NOT always win". "a game can be decided in
favor of the team that shows more passion"

Well, Argentina certainly had the best team if we analyze it on the
paper BUT, and in football there's always the "BUT" element, Brazil
was disciplined and won showing not only quality, talent but also a
lot of efficiency.

A lot of Argentines (and their simpathyzers) here on OLEOLE will
definetly say it was not fair. Argentina won all their previous games,
they score more goals, the suffered less goals BUT (once again BUT)
when Brazil and Argentina play everything they showed earlier in the
competition couldn't matter less.  It's a whole diferent story.

I believe that if Mexico had made to the finals, they would've had a
better chance to beat Brazil than Argentina.

Brazil players seem to incorporate all the nation's spirit when they
face the "albiceleste".

And the main fact is: Brazil played a perfect game.

Argentina had in fact one, ONE, UMA, UNA, and only ONE great
opportunity in the whole game when Riquelme took a shot from outside
the box and Doni proved me wrong, after all my critiscism towards him,
and saved a clear goal chance.

The rest of the game, which was 1 x 0 already for Brazil, was totally
contolled by the young guys in yellow.

Brazil studied Argentina's style. They knew that to beat such a great
mifield and offense they would have to individually mark Riquelme,
Messi and Tevez. And they did. Did you guys notice Mineiro on the
field??? Well, I did. He didn't give Riquelme not even one inch to
breath.

And besides being so disciplined deffensevely, Brazil's offense show
great efficiency. If the game had finished 1 x 0 for Brazil I would
understand (and accept) any complaints from Argentina's fans. But with
a 3 x 0 score, what is left to say? Brazil played very well, when they
were supposed to.

Congratulations to these group of talented, passionate and, MANY TIMES,
undervalued team.

...::: a song to celebrate :::... (the one my Brazilian friends hould
be sing to the Argies now)

VOU FESTEJAR (Beth Carvalho)

Chora... Nao vou ligar,
Chegou a hora
Vai me pagar
Pode chorar, pode chorar

Eh o teu castigo
Brincou comigo
Sem ter por que

Vou Festejar (vou festejar)
O teu sofrer
O teu penar

Voce pagou com traicao
A quem sempre lhe deu a mao
Voce pagou com traicao
A quem sempre lhe deu a mao

PHOTO SUMMARY:
Juan: Team Captain, the best of the match in my opinion. No room for Messi

...and when he tried to go back to midfield to get the ball, Mineiro said "NOT HERE KIDDO"

Riquelme was probably thinking "if only I had been born Brazilian..."

Please, wash your mouth before talking shit about Diego Maradona. He was the best ever! He did wrong things after he stopped playing futbol but his contribution for the game was fantastic!

Ok, can we foccus on the subject? this Maradona x Pele issue makes me sick sometimes. Anyway. Brazil nailed the game, yes! I met with ManoGil on saturday before the game and he told me about oleole
and also said that people get too fanactic sometimes. He said exactly what he posted here: that when Brazil and Argentina play it's something tottaly different. No matter how more prestigious one
team is at the moment the rivalry levels up the game. It was an great game to watch and ManoGil did a great job covering the Copa America. Keep it up my friend.

Hey Ryan... yes, I say what I say because I KNOW this game... I deeply know this game... I will never cross the line and talk about what I don't really understand, I'd rather ask first and then get
to a conclusion. But I love football and I do my best to be precise, honest and respectful when I write about it. ********************************************** Man it was great meeting you. You're a
very cool and smart young man. We will definetly play some soccer once a get my surgery done and recover from it.

Let Mexico play Brazil now...Remember Mexico have been playing together much much longer then this Brazilian team. Brazil needed time to click. Mexico had the Gold Cup and most the players are the
same from the WC. Brazil had almost 95% new players. Try again Encantado.

Mexico can only beat Brasil when Ronaldinho and Kaka are not playing. DON'T ARGUE WITH ME ON THAT, encantado, YOU WILL GET BURNT! Great blog, manogil, I guess you were right. The better and stronger
team doesn't always win. I would have NEVER thought that Barcelona would lose all trophies this past season. Like I say, for clubs, "Pre-season friendlies will give you an idea of how good or bad
your season will be". It may sound corny, but it's TRUE!

Ok - again - STAY ON SUBJECT! Argentina used their skills but they were no match to the skills AND the use of body by Brazil. They had their players set up great in the field - Brazil knew where to
stay, how to stop Argentina AND how to score to Argentina. This talk about Mexico going against Brazil again... yeah... Make a blog about it and then we discuss there.

Is México better than Brasil???? quaquaqua...don't make me laugh, Encantado. Mexico play CONCAF tournaments and has never won something significantly...Brasil is Brasil and if they have guts, it is
very difficult to be beaten...and I'll not talk about Pele-Maradona issue, since there are nothing to talk about...as I heard here another day, buy an argentine by the price he worths and sell him
for the price he thinks he worths and you'll probably get rich....

I take my hats off to Dunga, Brazil played tough and actually a lot like Rafa's Liverpool....and Brazil has all the fouls to prove it 37 in one game! It's what Brazil needed to do to stop this
Argentinean team. I'm glad Dani Alves got more playing time and Doni has proved himself to me. Dunga has won this with a team that frankly isn't as talented as their oponent but a team with more
heart for sure! He is our best coach since Scolari left.

Yeah, it sucks because I wanted to see Messi lift the trophy, but seeing Ronaldinho's country do it without him and Kaka, is ok with me. lol. CONGRATS BRASIL!

anti madrista, i know brazil with ronaldinho & kaka would beat almost any team im just sayin we beat brazil 2- 0 and they did have robinho with the most goals in the tourney, thats quite an
accomplishment for mexico, a team which in history, has no copa america wins under their belt, whereas brazil has been an amazing force throughout history. im sayin mexico is becoming a much stronger
team than before and they will be a force in the next copa

Brazil has AMAZING talents for every position. The size of the country and the amount of people playing the sport makes it almost IMPOSSIBLE for any other nation in this planet to have as many
talented players as Brazil. They might not always win but in every competition they participate they will be on the TOP FAVORITES FOR THE TITTLE.

That's how I see it. When the Federacion Mexicana de Futbol decided to send its clubs to play the Libertadores Cup it realized how much quality of mexican football increased. A very intelligent
decision. Now I see Mexico as the 3rd. football power in all the Americas. Mexico is not better than Brazil, Mexico is not better than Argentina. Beating Brazil does not mean you are better (Japan
already beat Brazil, Norway did it more than once... does that mean they're better than Brazil?). Mexico played better than Brazil in that game. The team had a better structure, strategy and more
passion that's why they won that first game.

Don't make me laugh, JLuis...Mexico improved a lot and you should be very happy that Brazil and Argentina are taken your team for serious right now...but Mexico will have to improve a lot to win
something important...and they will have to take a look at USA, in this case its great rival, which is learning how to play and once and while is showing much more football in the last years.

I believe Mexico have improved a lot in the last years (so has the USA) but both nations need to prove that they deserve a spot among the best teams in the world by doing better in a World Cup than
they have done all through the years. Once a team features among the 4 best in the WC they will receive the deserved respect from the rest of the world. (and that exclude teams that appeared among
the 4 best just when they were hosting the competition)

USA needs to prove A HELL of a lot more than Mexico - that is a FACT.

I am not sure that the US has more to prove than Mexico. Mexico still can't beat the US. I believe they have not beat the USA in the last 10 meetings and that is a FACT. I am not saying the USA
deserves any more respect but saying they are that much better than the USA is a joke.

Back to talkin' futbol and discussing the original post and not the "ALL CAPS" commentaries and Mexico is better, bla bla bla. El futbol es asi... Thats all that needs saying to explain why on
any given Sunday... Brazil...what can be said about Brazil that hasn't been said. They beat Argentina after their own press and fans had already anticipated any type of loss by stating and
restating
loudly that they had sent a B team. Yet, who can argue that any compilation of B players born in Brazil and playing at the front, in the top leagues of Europe, is not an A team overall. Maybe its
not
the top stars but it is not a B team. So they already had the excuse at the ready if Argentina's dominance in the previous five games came across into the finals. ...continued below

continued... Dunga, to his immense credit, did not fall back into the scheme of Brazil that only plays Jogo Bonito (since jogo bonito is only present in Nike commercials as of late), and sent a game
plan to the pitch of countering Argentina's ball handling and pretty playing with a very physical and effective defensive scheme, enhanced by a very early well executed goal taken away from a bad
pass back from Messi to Mascherano. Physical...since when do we praise a team for committing 37 fouls, especially when it is a 3 to 0 winning team. Usually its the weaker team on the short end of the
score that commits the most fouls. So Brazil used their size well, collapsing 2 or 3 on Messi, Tevez or Riquelme. And Argentina did not know how to rotate the ball out and open the game. They were
uncarateristically flustered at the worst possible moment. Continue again...
