In the 2006/2007 season of the English Premier League Sheffield United were relgated on the last day with a loss against Wigan. At the end of the game they were even with points and dropped down to the Championship due to a worse goal differential. West Ham Unites stayed in the top-flight with a win over champions Manchester United. The goal scorer was Carlos Tevez, which West Ham illegally aquired. During the season West Ham was fined for their illegal activites and not docked points.
I think that the decision to fine West Ham was the Premier League's choice. Sheffield can question all they like but it does not change it. They have made an appeal which was turned down and now they're going to highcourt over it. In my opinion they should give up and if they feel they are Premiership worthy then they will surely be back next year.
It is true West Ham fielded an illegally signed player. This was wrong, but they were punished for it. They received a fine for their illegal activities and rightly so. Sheffield Unitec cannot decide the punishment, just as a victim of theft cannot decide the punishment for the thief.
I also feel the way West Ham played comapred to Sheffield United is reason enough to stay up. West Ham won seven of their last nine matches, compared to Sheffield winning only two of their last nine. Sheffield United also had a fair chance to stay. They had a do or die oppurtunity on the last day at home but unfortunatly for them, Wigan had the last word. If they cannot win at home, in front of thousands of loyal fans, with everything to win for, then I do not believe they deserve to play amongst the greatest. Furthermore it is not West Hams fault that they were not able to win.
It can also be argued that Tevez was not in form until the latter half of the season, which Sheffield United could have acted on.
On My thoughts on Sheffield United
