2008/9 Prediction Competition: Results

Monday, 01 June 09, 06:11 PM · Comments(11)

Joel: 13

Stuart: 13

Joe: 7

Mike: 13

So it's a tie! Who deserves to win? Joel, for his outstanding vision in tipping Burnley and Bordeaux to triumph, getting the FA Cup winners right and being one Wolfsburg away from a clean sweep in Europe? Or Mike, who sort of knows his SPL and spotted Barca's potential, but also tipped West Ham for the drop and Villa for 4th? Think it'll have to go to a public vote.

Joel Abraham

Stuart "Dizzy" Gillespie

Joe Walton

Mike "Sinno" Sinnerton

Hey Joel, love your shirt!

Oooh... I did some calculations by points:

EPL top 4.
Joel had a 100% right guess - he gets one point for that = 1 point
Mike got 75% = 3/4 points

EPL bottom 3.
Joel - 1 out of 3 = 1/3 points
Mike - guessed one right = 1/3 points

Promoted.
Joel - 2 of 3 = 2/3 points
Mike - 2 out of 3 = 2/3 points

EPL golden boot.
Joel - nada = 0 points
Mike - nailed it = 1 point

FA cup.
Joel - guessed right here = 1 point
Mike - I WISH it was true, but alas... = 0 points

League cup.
Joel = 1 point
Mike = 1 point

SPL top 3.
Joel = 0 points
Mike - guessed 1 team = 1/3 points

SPL relegated.
Joel = 0 points
Mike = 1 point

European champions.

First I wanted to make it 4/5 and 2/5 respectively. But then I thought - they chose one in every country, not 5 out of one country. So every team should be counted as 1 point. Hence...

Joel - guessed 4 of 5 = 4 points
Mike - only 2 = 2 points

Champions League.
Joel = 0 points
Mike = 1 points

UEFA cup.
Joel = 0 points
Mike = 0 points.

Now calculate the total:

Joel: 1 + 1/3 + 2/3 + 1 + 1 + 4 = 8 points

Mike: 3/4 + 1/3 + 2/3 + 1 + 1 + 1/3 + 1 + 2 + 1 = 8 1/12 points

So the winner - by a very close margin - is......
MIKE "SINNO" SINNERTON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

P.S. Don't be surprised - I'm a math student. That's what I do for fun, apart from watching sports.

When were these predictions made?

So I lose by 1/12 of a point. I demand a recount!

Mike: That has to be the most biased intro I've ever read! West Ham was a touch foolish, but none of us got anywhere near 'Boro or Newcastle (I did blog on 'Boro being doomed on Februray 11), whilst Bayern for the Champions League was just as bad. All in all a well deserved sneaked victory, thanks Aida!

Oh, come on!!!
There are no recounts, just like there won't be a second Chelsea-Barcelona match... not that I'm Ovrebo or something...

Anyway, you are very-very welcome!
I really like your blog. So keep up the good work, guys!

No wonder Sinno looks so gutted in his pic - Hammers for the drop???

Just want it to be known that under Aida's scoring system I also have 8. Fuck you, Marseille.

Oops, sorry, Dizzy.. didn't count your points. Yeah turns out you also have 8...
I'd blame Caen... ;)

Mike: Good knowledge, but slightly harsh. I'd blame AC Milan for letting Gourcuff go.

Just been pointed out that Dizzy got 13 aswell. It's a three-way tie. I propose an extreme rules triple threat match to decide the winner. Gentlemen, choose your weapons.

Where's my points for picking Davide Santon as 'one to watch'. He's marked Ronaldo, well, he's making his Italy debut now, and he's been marked out by Lippi as 'one destined for greatness'. 5 points should do it.
