Give Some Time For The Keeper!

Thursday, 17 July 08, 12:31 PM · Comments(58)

In football the strikers and midfielders of the game are most remembered.....And it makes us forget about the great Goal Keepers of the game....The players with the most pressure on the pitch are the players who get the least rememberance....So who is the greatest keeper of all time?.....Who is the great keeper at the moment?....Who really stops the ball from going in the back of the net?.....Lav Yashin?....Gigi Buffon?....Anyone....Tell me all....

Iker Casillas proved what a class player he is, in the Euro's! Obviously Buffon has been one of the best keepers of the modern era, but the best of all time for me is Peter Schmeichel, "The Great Dane" was certainly the best i have seen in the PL. The best GK on current form in England is David James imo, and i never thought i'd say that! It just goes to show 8O how quickly things can change in Football...

Casillas
Buffon
Given
Canizares

Since his head injury, Cech has never been the same. He no longer has that bravery that was right on the border of stupidity. He looks nervous these days.

Rivaldinho....I agree Cech hasn't been himself since that knock on the head...he's been dropping alot of crosses...Given is a great keeper who defiently doesn't get enough praise!

Given is good but his Achilles heal is his size, having said that Casillas ain't that big either! Agree about Cech although understand it is only human, after such a horrific injury... It's bound to play on his mind?

Thomas Ravelli was the keeper for Sweden in the 90's. Very good but to me the one unforgettable ones were Rinat Dasayev (Soviet Union), Michel Preud'homme (Belgium), Dino Zoff (Italy), Peter Schmeichel (Denmark) ... Those are all from the 80's and I grew up watching them play.

Lev Yashin is a legend and will be a reference forever.

Iker Casillas in the name of the year. Petr Cech comes right after him.

ManoGil Cech shouldn't be after Casillas, Buffon should!!! Buffon in my opinion is better overall than Casillas but not this year!!! Casillas outdid him in da euros that's why this year:

1. Casillas
2. Buffon
3. Cech

I'm only 19, so I missed out on Jennings/Clemence/Shilton &c.

From the 'keepers I've seen, it has to be Peter Schmeichel, apart from him there haven't been many top-class goalies in the Premiership era, maybe Friedel and van der Sar.
Outside of the prem, I would have to say Buffon, Casillas, and, for winning Euro 2004 almost single-handedly (or should that be double-handedly?!), Nikopolidis.
I just hope that Schmeichel's son can also become a world-class stopper to 'keep' it in the family ;)

Me again - one more nomination...

This goalkeeper has a 100% clean sheet record for his country (and in all competitions, for that matter).

He plays for Middlesborough...

Still confused?

It's Tuncay, of course! Brilliant 5 minutes in goal for Turkey, truly world class performance 8) :D
