There have been so many great sides, during many different eras of the English game... But putting bias to one to one side, which team is the greatest? Obviously the likes of Manchester United have dominated the modern game, but during the 60's Spurs won the first ever double, during the 70's Leeds were a force to be reckoned with & during the 80's Liverpool were the team to beat. Having said all that... If you had to choose one side that was the best, who would it be? Maybe Manchester United when they won the Treble in 1999? Or even dare i say it the Arsenal team, that went 49 games unbeaten? What do you reckon? Your views please...
But remember try remain impartial if at all possible & keep in mind this isn't just about who has won the most trophies, or who has been the most successful team... No this is about "pure" Football... What the Dutch call "Total" Football... & who plays the beautiful game the way it should be played, in other words George Graham's Arsenal won't count here...
Fine then...as i am a spurs fan...the Spurs side on '61 lol...
I knew you were gonna give me that answer Lol.
But to prove i am not biased as i have stated in this post that i want other people to give honest opinions, i will take the lead... Stick my neck out and go for Utd of this season! Any team with Ronaldo in it, scoring 42 goals from midfield has got to be a bit tasty & gets my vote. Salute!
Haha...George Graham...'The man in the coats, blue and white army!' brill...Okay...I've changed my mind...the united team that won the treble...played beautifully...got a bit lucky in CL, but still great!
Cheers Adam, i think i have made things more clear... For everyone Lol

I would have to say Manchester Utd...Liverpool is also up there, but Man U consistently perform and always have done...they're the true great of the game...But even though all of that, it has to be Tottenham
I would say Arsenal because even if they don't win alot, they are still the best team to watch : the set peaces the passes everything is nice with this team. All they need is a good goalscorer.
Of course Manchester United is still the best at the moment.
Remember guys this is about the team that both wins, and plays in the right manner just who wins the most.
The greatest sides (i have to have 2 for this one) in football history for me were the Tottenham sides that beat Arsenal and Chelsea in thsi years Carling Cup.
The 5-1 game was probably the best game of my life. I was so immensely proud to be a spurs fan that night, i actually had tears in my eyes when the game was over all the years and times that Arsenal beat us were written off that night in one glorious game. Every player did their bit for Spurs last night and we not only beat our oldest rivals, we hammered them! I felt like i was walking on air for about a week after that, and for a football team to give you that sort of immense feeling must make them legends.
The team that went out against Chelsea in the final did not win so emphatically but i knew from the very first minute we were going to win that game. Every player in a tottenham shirt played their part in what was a much needed trophy in the season of our 125th Anniversary. Berba's ice cold penalty and Woodys lucky header cemented that teams place in football history. To beat Chelsea in a final at the new Wembley was such a memorable achievement and one that i'm sure will never be forgotten by any Spurs fan.
Yes Jamie a great Cup team and a great achievement in hammering Ar5ena1, on there way to beating Chelski in the Final!!! To make it even more sweet.
However as great as that was last season, Spurs cannot be deemed as the best team ever! For that you have to think possibly, Spurs of 61" in which they were the first team of the century to win the double! Whilst playing sublime Football, or Nottingham Forest under Clough winning European Cups, or Shankley & Paisley at Liverpool who built awesome teams... The list is endless, but these were truly great teams, of which Spurs cannot be deemed after paltry League Cup success, as much as i hate to say it.
I want to say Tottenham but I have to admit it's Man utd even though I hate da bastards!!!
Cheers Barca4Lyf... Keep em coming boys & girls!!!
k in terms of the most prestigious in England, I would have to say Liverpool because they have more Champions League titles but in terms of who plays the beautiful game it definitely has to Arsenal!
Arsenal, Arsenal compared to Barca they play like kids, beautiful football you want it you'll find it in da nou camp !!!
I have to agree although i hate to, with regards to the Goons!
yip Arsenal plays like the little brother of BARCA! lol Barca's style is the best!
Yeh every1 knows barca play da best footy!!! Arsenal sucks!!!
Back to the question at hand... Which is the greatest side in English Football history?
very difficult to say..many different sides, many different styles..a few could have a claim..i'm a leeds united fan and they had arguably the best side in english football from 65-75, but also most underachieving side too for all their dominance...some other good sides around at that time too, arsenal, liverpool, chelsea, derby co, everton...other sides have dominated certain years and were great sides too...chapman's huddersfield and arsenal sides of the twenties...wolves and stan cullis...spurs double winners of '61...liverpool under paisley...1999 man.utd treble winners...arsenal 49ers...but the best side in my opinion, the greatest achievement as to be brian cloughs notts forest sides from 77-80..remarkable achievement what cloughie accomplished there...won't ever be equalled again considering the state of footy now...winning the championship in first season back in top flight, two european cups on the bounce..league cup, dunno how many n when but great players too..shilton, woodcock, gemmill etc...great side, great manager...
Fantastic to get your opinions and thoughts BiteYerLegs, thank you very much
I am biased so id say the heroic 1982 villa euopean cup winning side
but otherwise probrably Man Utd the season they signed Yorke from Villa and he and Andy Cole were up front (its just coincidental villa were mentioned again!)
No worries mate, I am the same when it comes to Spurs haha

This debate is not about who has been the most successful side ever, otherwise it would be a forgone conclusion! (Ie; between Liverpool & the Mancs) This is about which team performed, so well that respective season... That they were classed as the greatest football side... For football played.
As an example some people said the Arsenal side that went 49 games unbeaten, were the best team ever? At the time Terry venables was asked that question... To which he replied; no the Spurs side of 61" were the best ever.
This is all the beautiful game my friend, and about who plays the purest most exillerating Football. Internationally the Dutch created Total Football and so forth...
