Premiership predictions

Tuesday, 08 May 07, 03:43 PM

So who was the Premiership predictinator this week? Tom Thom(p)son (booo) and John Johnson (yay)?  Here's how this week's matches panned out.

Aston Villa 3-0 Sheffield United: We both went for a Villa win. 1-1.

Everton 3-0 Portsmouth: Silly Thom(p)son went for Pompey while I figured it'd be a home win. 2-1 to me.

Fulham 1-0 Liverpool: No points here as Fulham surprised us both.

Man City 0-1 Man United: Again no points as we both went for draws.

Newcastle 0-2 Blackburn: Thom(p)son draws level as I had the Toon. 2-2.

Reading 0-2 Watford: Both us had Reading. Watford played with gay abandon.

West Ham 3-1 Bolton: Into the lead I go as the Hammers keep up their good form and Bolton's typical end of season slump continues. 3-2.

Wigan 0-1 Boro: We both went for Boro here. 4-3.

Arsenal 1-1 Chelsea: It's all square again as Tom went for a draw and I thought Arsenal would win. 4-4.

Charlton 0-2 Spurs: Damn his oily hide. He goes ahead because he picked Spurs. What was I thinking? 5-4.

Chelsea v Man United: It's still to be played but as we both went for a draw this means Tom Thom(p)son is this week's prediction winner.

Boooo!

Final predictions of the season on this week's podcast.

This week's podcast

Tuesday, 01 May 07, 05:06 PM

As well as all your usual favourite stuff (quiet, you) this week I'll be talking to Phil Hay from the Yorkshire Evening Post about what's happened to Leeds United.

How is a club that was contesting the semi-finals of the Champions League only 6 years ago now on the brink of relegation to League 1 and what does the future hold for them with the threat of administration looming large?

Find out on The Week in Football this Thursday.

Premiership predictions

Sunday, 29 April 07, 09:52 PM

So what happened with this week's Premiership predictions.

Blackburn 4-1 Charlton: We both went for Charlton so that's a point each. A good start. 1-1.

Chelsea 2-2 Bolton: Tom Thom(p)son thought Chelsea would win this. I thought this would be a draw. Suck it up, Thom(p)son. 2-1 to me.

Everton 2-4 Man Utd: He went for United, I thought Everton might surprise them and for a while it looked like they might. Curse them though, they didn't. 2-2.

Man City v Aston Villa: He said Villa, I said City. The sneaky bastard goes ahead 3-2.

Boro 2-3 Spurs: Once again Tom Thom(p)son is let down by Gareth Southgate. First there was the tuxedo incident in 1987 (ask him, he might tell you), then this. I went for Spurs therefore I score. It's 3-3.

Portsmouth 2-1 Liverpool: And the pendulum has swung like a swingy thing. He said draw, I said Pompey. 4-3 to me.

Sheff United 1-0 Watford: Damn him again. I thought Watford, playing with gay abandon, would do the job. Sadly not. 4-4. It's a close one this week.

Wigan 0-3 West Ham: A point each as we both correctly predicted Wigan's slump would continue. 5-5

Arsenal 3-1 Fulham: A point each as we both correctly predicted Wigan's slump would continue. 6-6

Reading 1-0 Newcastle: We both went for Reading so that mean's this week's predictions end in an epic 7-7 draw.

Overall I still lead 1-0 though.

Podcast update

Thursday, 26 April 07, 10:49 AM

This week's podcast, which should be live now, features a very interesting discussion about the MLS with Glenn Davis , former professional player and now a radio presenter, TV presenter, podcaster and newspaper columnist for the Houston Chronicle.

It's worth a listen, particularly for those of us in Europe who don't know a great deal about the MLS.

The info about the salary cap is very hard to get your head around when you're used to the crazy money players are on here.
