Eurocast, the Euro 2008 podcast, episode 13 - plus semi-final predictions

Monday, 23 June 08, 04:40 AM

Morning all,

hope you enjoyed the weekend's football. There wasn't much to enjoy about last night's game between Spain and Italy apart from the fact the negative Italians got knocked out. A feast of football it was not.

Russia were excellent against Holland and I'm looking forward to the game against Spain. And despite all their injuries and suspensions you just can't write off Turkey. That's two remarkable comebacks now although I fear they're probably a bit too stretched to trouble the Germans.

So, semi-final predictions from me:

Germany 3-1 Turkey

Spain 2-1 Russia

Yours in the comments as per usual.

Now, in today's Eurocast Tom and I discuss all the weekend's action, make some suggestions about how to stop players kicking the ball out when someone is "injured" and we talk to Luigi about Spain's win over his home country and our Dutch correspondent Ashwin.

Please remember we do want to hear what you think about Euro 2008. It's easy.

Eurocast, the Euro 2008 podcast, episode 12 - plus 1/4 final predictions 2

Friday, 20 June 08, 04:23 AM

Morning all,

predictions. A difficult business, I'm sure you'll agree. Bakes predicted 3-2 for Germany but after extra time. Should we give him the kudos? Let the people decide.

I'm really looking forward to tonight's game between Croatia and Turkey - not the most high profile of teams but it's often those that provide the most entertainment. My guess is:

Croatia 4-2 Turkey

A veritable goalfest. Come on! Your predictions in the comments please.

Right, in today's Eurocast we have some of your emails about the German win over Portugal, exclusive dressing room access so we can hear Cristiano Ronaldo's post-game reaction, we talk to Tom our German correspondent and there's a quick preview of tonight's game.

Remember, we are looking for your thoughts on the games, so please email or leave voicemail for the Eurocast. It's easy and it makes you more attractive to the opposite sex. Not doing so makes you poor and smelly. So you know what to do.

To contact us use the info below:

UK -  +44 20 7193 6971

SWISS - +41 44 586 62 08

Eurocast, the Euro 2008 podcast, episode 11 - plus 1/4 final predictions

Thursday, 19 June 08, 04:06 AM

We'll start with congrats to 4ndyL who got both games right in yesterday's predictions. Erm, actually no he didn't. So I withdraw those congratulations and give him half back for getting the Spain result right along with wandarah.

As usual I got none right so for anyone just starting this prediction thing my advice would be to look at what I do and do differently.

It's the first quarter final today though, so that means only one prediction so I have 50% less chance of being wrong. Or something. I reckon Germany are going to do it, actually.

Germany 2-1 Portugal

Lehmann to save a Ronaldo penalty too. Let us know what you think in the comments. I do like the knock-out stages though, it does make for more exciting football.

Now for the Eurocast. We've got an unhappy Swedish correpondent after his country's exit to the impressive Russia last night, Luigi talks about Spain's win over Greece and how the Spanish press are already starting to build up the game against Italy and a look ahead to tonight's game with Tom Thom(p)son.

Please do keep the emails and voicemails coming though. The more the merrier.

To contact us use the info below:

UK -  +44 20 7193 6971

SWISS - +41 44 586 62 08

Saturday, 14 June 08, 05:13 AM

Happy Saturday to you all,

this is the Eurocast, the podcast that doesn't even take weekends off! That's how dedicated we are. As usual we'll start with the predictions. None right yesterday for anyone and I have to say I'm down money on my betting. I need a big one to get me back on track. So for today I reckon:

Spain 2-1 Sweden

Greece 0-3 Russia

Your predictions welcome in the comments.

On today's Eurocast we talk France v Holland. What a win that was for the Dutch and we look at it from both sides with French correspondant Ollie and Dutch correspondant Ashwin. There's comment on Italy v Romania too and a brief look ahead to today's games.

Do feel free to email or voicemail the show at any stage though. We'd love to hear from you.

Eurocast, the Euro 2008 podcast, episode 6 - plus predictions day 7

Friday, 13 June 08, 03:14 AM

Friday! Hurrah. The end of the working week. But not for the Eurocast, oh no. We'll keep on 'casting.

As usual we'll start with our predictions and well done to Hodiddle, the only one to get a correct prediction yesterday.

My completely wrong predictions for today are:

Italy 2-0 Romania

France 1-2 Holland

I'm putting money on Holland and Italy for the wins. I think France are too old, too injured and too Domenechy to win the game. Regular pundits should now know to do the exact opposite of what I say as I never get any right. But I have to start sometime, right? The law of averages and all that. Could today be the day?

Now the Eurocast. I talk to German correspondant Tom about their 2-1 defeat to Croatia yesterday, there are some of your emails about Austria v Poland, some thoughts about the penalty that was given, a preview of Italy v Romania with Horia and more.

Please do get in touch with the podcast, we're always happy to hear from you by email or voicemail. Give us your opinion on the issues, the controversies, the players, performances or anything else to do with Euro2008.

To contact us use the info below:

UK -  +44 20 7193 6971

Happy Thursday to you all and welcome to another Eurocast and another round of predictions.

As usual we'll start with predictions and only ElTorro got one yesterday, correctly predicting the Turkish win over Switzerland. For today's game my completely incorrect guesses are:

Croatia 1-2 Germany

Austria 1-3 Poland

As usual leave your predictions in the comments.

Now, in today's Eurocast Tom and I discuss Portugal v Czech Republic and Switzerland's exit at the hands of the Turkey. There are some of your emails and voicemails too as well as a preview of today's games.

Eurocast, the Euro 2008 podcast, episode 4 - plus predictions day 5

Wednesday, 11 June 08, 03:52 AM

Morning all,

are you all rushing out to buy your Greece shirts? Your Pro Evolution Greece 08 video game? I'm not sure you are.

We'll start as always with predictions. ElTorro pulled one right out of the hat with a correct 4-1 win for Spain, that's impressive. Nobody else got any right. I'm quite happy with yesterday's results as a shifty little bet won me €150. Obviously I'm not betting on correct scores because I still can't get any right.

Today's incorrect predictions are as follows:

Portugal 2-1 Czech Republic

Switzerland 1-1 Turkey

As usual give us your predictions in the comments.

Now to the Eurocast - the Euro2008 podcast. In this episode there are a lot of emails from you guys about Greece and how negative they were against Sweden. They're not winning many friends, that's for sure.

We talk to our Swedish correspondant Chris about the 2-0 win last night and our regular Spanish football expert Luigi talks about Spain's win over Russia.

There are some of your voicemails and emails about the negative approach to the game that some teams take and more.

Don't forget we really want to hear what you think about the matches, performances and issues of the tournament as they happen. It's just a quick phone call so please do feel free to get involved or just send us an email.

To contact us use the info below:

UK -  +44 20 7193 6971

SWISS - +41 44 586 62 08

But that's not all. If you have Skype you don't even have to pay for a phone call. Simply add 'oleole.com' as a contact then use Skype to call us. It'll go directly to the voicemail.

Sunday, 08 June 08, 06:12 AM

Firstly,

congratulations to 4andyL who got both games exactly right in yesterday's predictions. That's a cracking start.

Let's have your predictions for today's game then in the comments. Mine are as follows:

Austria 1-3 Croatia

Germany 2-1 Poland

Now, the very first Eurocast is ready for download. This time it's mostly me with some email comments from some of you guys but we really do want to hear from you via the voicemail systems we've set up. Just make a phone call and tell us what you think. The more you guys get involved the better it'll be. You don't have to be a fan of any particular country to give us your opinion.

One of the emails today said that Ronaldo showed against Turkey why he was the best player in the world. Did he? Was he that good? You tell us.

Plus we're looking for correspondents for a number of countries, have a listen and see if you can get involved.

To contact us use the info below:

UK -  +44 20 7193 6971
