Is Kaká the best player in world football?

Sunday, 16 December 07, 11:29 AM · Comments(18)

Watching Milan midfielder Kaká virtually destroy his opponents at the FIFA Club World Cup was a privilege. The Brazilian ace was rightly awarded the Player Of The Tournament for his two outstanding performances against Urawa Reds and Boca Juniors respectively, and it got me thinking about the best players that I've seen play in the flesh.

I saw Ronaldinho play at the World Cup in 2006, but the buck-toothed wizard was no where near as effective as Kaká was for Milan at this Club World Cup. Granted, the calibre of opposition was slightly higher at the World Cup in 2006, not to mention the fact that Ronaldinho was playing in a squad jam-packed with stars - Kaká included. Yet the former Sao Paulo midfielder simply gave AC Milan an added dimension, and I struggle to think of another team for whom one player is so instrumental. Barcelona fans might point to Lionel Messi, but then he too is arguably surrounded by better players than Kaká is at Milan.

Anyway, I'm keen to hear your thoughts. Who do you think the best player in world football currently is? Personally I think it's Kaká, and I'm interested to see if anyone agrees.

It's hard to choose who the best player in the world is. 2 years ago, Ronaldinho was the best player in the world and if you ever asked anyone that knew anything about football, they'd say it was
Ronaldinho. Now, you usually get about 3 or 4 names. Personally, I think the best player in the world is Messi. I'm not a Barcelona or an Argentina fan, but the things that guy does is amazing. It's
either Kaka or Messi. Of course, the Manchester United fans will always claim that Cristiano Ronaldo is the best player, but to me... he was NEVER the best player anywhere and should be kicked out of
football forever, for all of his cheating. For me... the best footballer in the world is Lionel Messi.

To determined such a subjective matter we would have to use certain attributes to (try) to be fair and mine would be: 1) ability, 2) decision factor, 3) play making, 4) taking responsibility, 5)
leading his team to victories and to win titles. When you analyze using these attributes one would understand why KAKÁ really made the difference in 2007. But once again I say that this choice is
simply a matter of what one judges important qualities in a footballer.

I like both AC Milan and Barca, though I would take Barca over AC any day of the week. I haven't seen much of Kaka this season, unforunately, but I know he is such a true, technical player and he has
world class skill, so he should definitely be in the running. Assuming that Kaka single-handedly took Milan to the winning of the Club WC, then yes, he should win the award. But Messi and Kaka are so
much better than C Ronaldo. He is electrifying, but he rarely changes the game and he is not a playmaker. He has no vision and no game-pace control, unlike the Argentinian and Brazilian man do. So I
would say Kaka, then Messi, then someone like Raul or Sneijder, who have both been on fire this year. C Ronaldo just has flashy moves, and he can't take a hit. Messi and Kaka both get fouled and get
back after the ball and play till the whistle blows, honorably, as the game should be played.

We need to stop being so Big Three-centric and widen our view of the game. Sure, Messi, Kaka, and Ronaldo have a lot of hype, and rightfully so, but at the moment I would be hard pressed to not pick
Karim Benzema (lighting up the goal-starved Ligue 1 for Lyon), Diego (the engine behind Werder Bremen's challenge for the Bundesliga), or Rafael van der Vaart (nearly single-handedly keeping HSV in
the Bundesliga title discussion).

In the end, I think there's no wrong answer on this topic, but all too often we're stuck in the rut of looking at players from the big clubs in England, Italy,
or Spain.

I'd have thrown my hand up for Jungo Fujimoto but for some reason his name never gets mentioned in these lists...

Didn't Fujimoto go to school with Shunsuke Nakamura? Heard good things about him. Too bad we don't have much J-League coverage here in the States, as what little of it I've seen is quite
exciting.

As for the Kaka-van der Vaart statement, let's put it this way. Take Kaka out of AC Milan out of their lineup for this season and tell me how well they would do in Serie A and their
Champions League group. Now do the same for van der Vaart and HSV and their Bundesliga and UEFA Cup campaigns.

Simply put AC Milan's Serie A malaise does not discriminate among its members, and
AC Milan were able to win their group easily, whereas HSV would be duking it out with Arminia & Co. for a relegation spot, and would not survived their UEFA Cup group.

Fujimoto did go to the same school as Nakamura, but Nakamura is six years older so I doubt they'd have had any contact.

The thing about including a guy like Rafael van der Vaart in a list
with
someone like Kaká or Lionel Messi is that both Kaká and Messi are important players in their national teams and have propelled their club sides to trophies.

Van der Vaart on the other
hand is
not exactly an indispensable member of the Dutch national team. Furthermore of his nine league goals this season three have been from the spot and he's scored a few free-kicks, as well as
laying
on
a further three "assists" - as my American friends are fond of saying.

Compare that to Werder Bremen's Diego, for example, who has also scored nine goals, including three
penalties, but who has laid on a
further seven "assists" in an injury-ravaged team and generally been far more involved than van der Vaart.

For me there is not much bewteen Lionel Messi and Kaka for the title of best player in the world. They are so far ahead of everyone else on the planet and to say that C. Ronaldo is the best player in the world is an absolute insult. He is not even the best player at Man Utd. Its laughable for someone to say that he is the worlds best and even it that happened to be through, then its a sad day for world football. Diego, Eusebio, Cruyff and co would be turned off their food. He never does it in the big games. Big swing, scoring against portsmouth and bolton at home. very rarely scores against the other so called big clubs in EPL and dont think he has ever had a man of the match performance for Man Utd in europe against a european giant. thats what makes messi and kaka so far superior. doing it when it really counts. Please GOD let Barca win the European Cup this year.

Yeah Kaka scores a bit and so does messi but any player that can score 35+ goals from a winger position is surely the best. i'm talking about Ronaldo of course

the only argument pro ronaldos have is 40 goals for winger. well if you actually study his performances he only does his flash step overs in space and then passes as soon as some1 cums to him. but man u on form create so many chances any1 who is in the box at right time will get plenty of tap chances , ie cole vnistlerooy and obviously ronaldo. so all he is a glorified owen, or lineker. whereas what kaka did at old trafford when he embarrassed rio and heinze, 2 class defenders is somethin ronaldo is yet to do. when i see him do it against terry or carrager then ill be impressed. also messy is amazing and will be even better and the number 1 in next few years. but i love kaka i love the way he seems to glide across the pitch with grace, i remember 1st time i seen him when milan beat deportivo 4 1 an i thought wow who the fck is that!!
