If ever there was an incentive not to draw 0-0 in a game it's what the media will do to you if your fans misbehave.
However placing the blame on the fans is only one side of the argument. The fans on the Victory fan forum are giving horrific accounts of innocent bystanders being pepper sprayed by police, and not for the first time in the club's history.
But I'll stay out of it to the extent that I wasn't there, consigned to watching the game on television as I come to grips with living in country Victoria.
What I will say is that it's embarassing that a sponsor station of the Victory Nova100FM had crowd troubles run as its top story on news bulletins this morning. In a country where the game of world football is constantly up against media machines more than happy to give it negative press, to push hard news (maybe something not about sport) aside in order to tip-in a team your own institution pours money into is an own-goal by nova.
Now to matters on the field, where Melbourne has sent its home fans home without a goal to cheer four times now this season, three times with the scores deadlocked.
It seems that patience is wearing thin with every position on the field, including our grand-final hero Archie Thompson who has worn out lee-way the grand final earned him.
Victory will be underdogs again next weekend away to Queensland, and after they hammered Wellington 3-0 this evening I'm not confident about our chances.
But maybe getting away from our troublesome home ground is the best thing for the team at the minute.

This is the regular column for the Melbourne Victory of Australia. The Victory is currently defending the A-League title and will play Asian Champions League at the end of the domestic campaign. There will also be the odd comment about the fortunes of the Australian national team.
