SUNDAY GOSS....

Sunday, 01 June 08, 04:37 AM

Zico insists that after the pain of this season, Rangers will be more dangerous than ever next season. Hope it hurts like hell right now and that next season it hurts as bad as a Manchester police dog treating your leg as a bonio chew....
Maloney to return?? reports that Celtic and rearrnagers are in for the talented but badly advised Maloney. It seems that Walter Smith (surely Sir Walter by now) wanted Maloney in January, but, Shaun decided that moving across Glasgow was not the best way to keep your windows, car and legs in one piece and plumped for MON's Villa. I always thought that the move to Villa was a strange one for the lhad as he was not what you would call an ever present under MON at Celtic. I thought that MON would continue and probably use a more direct style ( not long ball, there is a difference FM csc) in the premiership and the signing of Carew didn't do anything to make me change my mind. So....will Shaun be coming home?. Well..... he wont be in the running for Villa's MVP player award with only 11 premiership starts ( 11 appearances as a sub) giving a return of four goals, however, Berger has left and there is continued speculation over the future of Gareth Barry. MON might not be too keen to let him go unless their is a crazy offer and £4m from Sunderland might just be the magical figure. I cant see either the swine's or us going as much as £4m, so this story might just run and run until the window slams shut... :-)
Sno in Spain???? Osasuna to return for Evander, after failing in January. It seems that a new bid may be made. I would like to keep the big man, but, with a year left on his contract, he might feel that a move is best for him.
Huckerby knocks back the MLS for a 12 month deal at Celtic.
Oh aye... swine's to spend £2 on misser.......................
and ive not even mentioned my yearly Robbie Keane rumour.........
There you go some wee snippets. That will save you surfing the net or heading off to the shops for a paper.
On saying that, the sausage in your fridge looks a bit iffy.... ach what the hell. Go for it, what harm can it do.......

FIFA thumb up for 6+5 rule

Friday, 30 May 08, 05:57 AM

Fifa has voted in favour of a new ruling which limits the number of foreign players each team can field. FIFA president Sepp Blatter hopes that this ruling will be in place for the start of the 2012/13 season. He pointed to the domination of this years Champions League by EPL team's as an example of why this rule must be implemented, despite concerns from various bodies.
The European Union have expressed their concerns as it gives no player conditions based on their nationality and is different from UEFA's plan of "home grown players". The UEFA blueprint is that a player will be defined as " home grown" regardless of age or nationality, as long as they have been trained by their club or by another club in the national association for at least three years between the ages of 15 and 21.
So where does that leave us....
Our recent "best" 11 included McManus,Caldwell, Robson and Hartley. That would currently leave us with 7 foreigners, including Aiden who under the FIFA ruling would be classed as a foreigner, but, under the UEFA plan he would qualify as " home grown" as he has come through or youth system.
I really don't see how this ruling will make it more of a level playing field. The big 4 EPL team's will buy the top English players for hefty fee's and take the cream of the continentals. Therefore, you would imagine that they will still be successful and dominate the Champions League, gaining more money from points gained and more cash from the big TV companies.
The problem is not the amount of foreign players but competition itself.... over you you Platini...

Another Aussie Boy ?

Friday, 30 May 08, 04:26 AM

Harry Kewell's agent today sacred the bejesus out of Celtic fans worldwide when he refused to comment on the rumours that Celtic were about to end his Liverpool "hell"....... well as hellish as 138 games since July 2003 for Liverpool can be after his £5m pound move from Leeds. (£36,231.68 per game in case you are wondering)

Spotted as a youth at the NSW soccer academy, Kewell joined Leeds in 1996. He made his senior debut at 17 and quickly became a fans favourite. He was voted the PFA young player of the year in 2000 and later helped Leeds to the Champions League final.

The big guns came calling and after turning down Manchester United, he moved to Liverpool. He scored 11 goals in 49 appearances his first season, one goal in 31 the next and 3 in 41 the next again season. Now a bit part player at Liverpool, he is on his way out and will be looking for his last big payday.

Kewell has agreed to leave Liverpool after boss Benitez advised that if he stayed his wages which are believed to be around £75,000 would be cut dramatically. Newspaper reports ( i know i know) state that Celtic will now offer Kewell a massive £40,000 a week, making him the highest paid footballer at Parkhead and the SPL.

My ( ahem) Aussie source close to Kewell told me last night: "It's a done deal - Harry will be on his way to Celtic. "They are going to offer him £40,000 and I believe that will make him Celtic's biggest earner. "But for Harry it's not all about money - he simply wants to play football on a regular basis again.... cobber".

So, is he worth the reported £40,000 a week? In my opinion, no. He might be worth a punt on a pay as you play deal, but, with reported interest from Portsmouth and Juve (??) and given the crazy money floating round the premiership, you might even see a bid from a team such Wolves, giving them a premiership "name" to excite their fans.

£36, 231.68 is to rich for this bhoy.
