There's not a lot of news about Arsenal this quiet Friday so I thought I'd blog about the Sol Campbell issue. As of today Portsmouth have made a formal complaint about the abuse that took place last weekend when the visitors were Spurs. Following this incident (and also following Sol's complaint last year about fans being over the mark with their abuse) the whole debate around what fans can and can't do within the confines of a football stadium has been aroused. It seems there are a couple of points here, firstly fans cannot be condoned for any abuse that is racist, homophobic or similar and having heard the chants it seems they were OTT and the fans just cannot seem to get over the departure of Campbell to Arsenal.
Secondly, why didn't Arsenal formally complain over the abuse Campbell suffered as a player from Spurs fans (and the whole Judas thing went OTT) along with my own pet hate - why have we never called to the FA over fans' (and, in particular, I remember the 2004 semi final against Man Utd) abuse of Arsene Wenger with that sick "p####phile" chant. Remember when Old Red Nose complained about the abuse from Arsenal fans at Ashburton Grove but he never seems to condemn his own fans systematic and constant abuse of Wenger - him, a hypocrite, never! In fact I believe Arsenal have never made too much fuss due to Arsene's own reaction and manner of dealing with the situation.
Meanwhile, whatever is happening with the club you support it can never be as bad as what is happening at Newcastle. Today we see that Roy (it might as well be) Kinnear has gone off on one and Keegan could be back (for the 3rd,4th, 5th... time??) again! You couldn't make it up.
