Bring Back Glenn Helder - so some fans can see how bad it used to be...

or John Hawley or Jeff Blockley or countless other crap players playing crap football...

Sorry I don't know what came over me there, it may be to do with the flu/cold (or whatever I have at the moment and all the drugs I've been taking)  but I was just listening to Fighting Talk and the regular gooner, Tom Watt, made a comment about Helder. He was bemoaning the current fans at Arsenal who are either booing or moaning about no new players or just not turning up and as he rightly said some people don't know how lucky they are. Yes we need players and yes our team isn't playing anything like it did but that's football - you don't always win every game and you take the highs with the lows.

When I then read a few Arsenal related blogs on Ole Ole that are also having a go at Wenger it's got me goat (though I never really liked Billy that much) because we should be talking about Wenger's eloquent assault on the Manchester City (AKA the new Chelsea). That's the real problem, especially when (don't believe the talk about our financial muscle) we have no ability to compete financially, probably even with Lerner and his Villa money. The only way way we can really do anything is try and stay under the radar and pick up a cheap player or two - I have no real expectations on Arshavin - we may even want him but only at our price and in today's mad, mad world that's beyond our means. In the past clubs could live beyond their means but not any more. That is something we should all be grateful for rather than wishing we spent millions+.

The main argument I hear is our fans pay a lot of money and that's true but you pay £30 to watch League 1 football these days, everyone charges stupid money and it still is only a small percentage of club revenue - TV accounts for most of it. Sorry I'm rambling or delirious or both at the moment so I need to go back to the drugs...

Probably imagining it - it was that Lionel Ritchie hair , you must have been infatuated.

Also, this is a very simple (and possible stupid) question.....why do we have no money? I know we've just built a massive stadium, but we have capacity crowds paying the highest gate prices, relatively low player wages (compared to many) thanks to a historically tight structure, a small squad of young players, again niot commanding a fortune, plus we have the best record in terms of transfer +/- balance over the last few years. I still remember making over £20M on Anelka in 12 months! Add to that 9 consecutive years in the CL, league and cup wins, reaching a very lucrative final in the CL, and we have the tightest manager in Mr. Wenger........are the books really that bad that we are soooo skint? p.s. thi shas nothing to do with my views on whether we need another player, just wondering why we are so skint!! Is it all about the stadium?

I think we pay our young players too much (in respect of how much they have achieved). We have a plan to pay off the stadium costs which takes chunks of cash each year but who really knows. Maybe AISA have a link to more detailed view of accounts

Hmmmm... maybe it is down to the wages then. I think when we look at the table you have to admit it would be difficult to challenge this year. Rafa's liverpool squad must be as near perfect as he can get it, Man U have been solid again for the last few years, and you can't count Chelsea because they cheated with the "infinite money" cheat that Man city are also using. Villa are having a brilliant season, but instead of tangling with Liverpool for 4th, it's us, because they are playing very well. Got to wonder how we would be fairing with Hleb (hate), Silva and Flamini in particular though....

Fair play today though - could have gone pear shaped when we conceded but RvP is the main man

RVP has really stepped up since Cesc got injured and he is becoming invaluable to us now.
