Relaxing by the beach...

Saturday, 06 September 08, 09:14 AM

That's part of what I expect to be doing for the next 5 days here on Bintan, an Indonesian island just off Singapore. However, the luxury villa does have internet connections so I thought I'd check what was happening in the football world. Then you realise that it's just another International weekend and so it's all rather boring though maybe Andorra can beat England just so we can all hear EBJT's (*) excuses about the result.

Elsewhere the after effects of the Keegan saga drag on and we still have the City/West Ham fun and games to watch but very little on Arsenal but L'Equipe reports the first winter transfer rumour with Podolski set for Real Madrid. Oh yes it's a real football free weekend!!!!

No Standing, Shouting or generally behaving like a football fan please...

Monday, 21 July 08, 08:59 AM

Apparently that's the message I'm getting from Arsenal Football Club in their email to me (please don't stand it's dangerous, it will lose our safety certificate etc) and their announcement of their Anti-Social Behaviour Text Service. I don't have a problem with the need to remove people who exhibit blatant racist or homophobic behaviour but this will give license to the moral upstarts to complain about the bloke who swears at the ref constantly or doesn't particularly like Cashley Cole! People's perception of acceptable behaviour is different and, I would suggest, a football match is a very different environment from a church service. I don't expect to have to have the whole atmosphere (and there's not that much at Ashburton Grove anyway) sanitised constantly. We could learn so much more from the Bundesliga clubs who still stand and still serve alcohol on the terraces!

Yesterday  seemed a very slow football day and I managed to watch the Grand Prix, the Tour de France (where Cadel Evans lost the yellow jersey) and Padraig Harrington winning the Open. However, the quiet of the day meant that so-called quality newspapers in England make up bollocks about Arsenal to sell their crappy papers... Please leave this to the tabloids.

L'Equipe says that Podolski, subject to many rumours, is staying at Bayern Munich this season.
