Club Overview

Club History

The Sao Paulo Football Club as we know today had its official founding in 1935. But the history of the club begins well before that. The year 1900 is to, get to be more exact, when the founding of the Paulistano Athletic Club.

The Paulistano was the great power of football Paulista and Brazil at the beginning of the twentieth century. In that time played Arthur Friedenreich, a great footballer of the country in decades, 10 and 20. It gained the Paulista Championship by eleven times and was the first Brazilian team to make a trip to Europe (in 1925), where he received an excellent performance. The Paulistano, however refused to join the professionalism in football. He decided to terminate its activities in football, but as social and sports club amateur exists today. The same fate was, in 1929 the Association of Athletics Palmeiras.

On January 26, 1930, was born the Sao Paulo Football Club, with players and the colors red and white from the Paulistano (and footballers already enshrined as Araken, Friedenreich and Waldemar de Brito), and with white and black sold by AA of Palmeiras, besides having inherited this Chácara the field of the Forest. The first of the new club president was elected by the shareholders: the dr. Edgard de Souza.
