The Argentina National Football Team represents the nation of Argentina and is controlled by the Argentine Football Association (AFA).The team’s nickname is Albicelestes (white and sky blue) due to the color of their uniforms. Argentina holds the record for most international titles won by a national squad. The Argentinean soccer team and its players make up one of the most successful teams in football history. Soccer legends such as Diego Maradona, Mario Kempes and Javier Zanetti helped the squad win its prestigious titles. The first match that the Argentinean national team played was on May 16th against Uruguay’s national football team, winning by a score of 3-2. Argentina’s first major international competition was the 1928 Olympic Games, in which the squad won the silver medal. In 1994, during the World Cup, a scandal broke out, which had a negative effect on Argentina, and expelled Maradona from the team, after he did not pass the drug test for steroids. The Argentinean National Football Team is currently number 1 in the FIFA world ranking. Superstar soccer players such as Lionel Messi, Javier Zanetti and Julio Ricardo Cruz are present members of the Argentinean National Soccer Team.
