Manchester City FC

Manchester City FC was founded by Anna Connell and two wardens from St. Mark’s Church in 1880, in the city of Manchester, England. The team had their most successful seasons during the fifties, sixties, and eighties as they won the First Division and FA Cup, with legends such as Neil Young wearing the blue jersey. The Blues worst seasons were during the mid eighties and the nineties, as they club went through several relegations and multiple coaching changes. Chairman David Bernstein took over in 1998, and hired Kevin Keegan as manager for Manchester City. The team then became dominate once again, winning the First Division during the 2001/02 season. Stuart Pearce replaced Keegan in 2005, but after two unsuccessful seasons, Sven-Göran Eriksson took over the position, and continues to manage the Manchester City Football Club till present day.

Manchester City - Die-hard Supporters

Despite the team’s lack of success during several seasons over past decade, Manchester City has one of the biggest fan bases in European Football. Even when they got relegated back in the late 1990’s, average attendance for the games was 30,000. A case study done by Hewlett-Packard showed that the team has a fan base of about 400,000 fans nationwide and two million all around the world. Included in this fan base is the famous British rock band Oasis, who are from the Manchester England.

Manchester City in 2008/2009

Manchester City FC looks like it’s going to do a lot better this season then in 2007/2008. With new players and rising stars such as Joe Hart, the club looks like it’s got the talent to compete with top ranked teams such as Manchester United and Chelsea FC for the English Premier League title. Manchester City can possibly even get a spot in the Champions League or get far in the UEFA Cup.

The club made key acquisitions which improved the depth of the squad. The Blues added the Brazilian international Robinho for a transfer amount of £32.5 million, in order to strengthen the Man City’s offence. To better defend the ball the club extended the contracts of defender Richard Dunn, Micah Richards and goalkeeper Joe Hart.

To coach these rising stars Manchester City FC replaced Eriksson with Mark Hughes the successful coach from Blackburn. Hughes astonished everyone while coaching for Blackburn, taking the club to the top six of the English Premier League defeating clubs such as Arsenal and Chelsea along the way.

To start the season out, Manchester City was ranked fifth on in the EPL. The Blues defeated FA Cup winner Portsmouth by a score of 6-0 in front of an audience of 40,000. The club also played well against Chelsea and Arsenal. As the new players continue to get more comfortable with the team, the club with became leaders in the EPL. .

Luv Man U. ... don't really hate any teams ... maybe Chelsea... because of attitude. (Although it's harder to dislike them now that the special one is gone) Unlike most UK based supporters of the Red Devils, I enjoy watching Arsenal and Liverpool or anybody who plays attacking football with style, regardless of league or nationality.
