About Tottenham Hotspur

Tottenham Hotspur football club was founded in 1882 by St. John’s Presbyterian Church, and became a professional organization in 1895, when joining the Southern League. Playing out of , their third stadium, the club immediately became one of the top teams in England, winning an FA Cup trophy and Southern League title in their first two seasons. During the next twenty years the team went up and down through different divisions, as they were able to win only a single title. After World War II Tottenham Hotspur’s manager Bill Nicholson made the team successful and led the Spurs to eight trophies in sixteen years. After his departure, the Tottenham success was put to a halt until Argentinean players Osvaldo Ardiles and Ricardo were signed and helped revolutionize the club. During the 1980s and 90s the club went through a period of coaching and management changes, and the team got sold to ENIC Sports PLC, owned by David Levy.

Spurs - To Dare is To Do

Tottenham's club motto is Audere est Facere ("To Dare is To Do"), and its crest is a cockerel standing on top of a football. The club has a long-standing rivalry with near neighbours Arsenal FC and the highly competitive matches between the clubs are commonly known as the "North London derby". Currently the team is in mid-table of the English Premier League having finished the 2007-2008 season in 11th place. Tottenham have mllions of supporters in the United Kingdom and internationally, mostly from the North London area they call home. Home matches typically attract very high attendance at White Hart Lane, and in during the 1950s and 1960s, the Spurs had the highest average match attendance in all of England. There are also Tottenham supporters' clubs located all over the world, and online at OleOle.
