UEFA EURO 2008™ football tournament will be held in major cities across Austria and Switzerland from June 7th to June 29th, 2008. EURO 2008, previously known as the European Football Championship, is held every 4 years in a different host country and features Europe's top 16 teams based on qualifying games that have taken place since 2006. EURO 2008 will be the Austrian national team's first appearance in any EURO cup as Austria have qualified automatically along with Switzerland as they are the host nations. The other 14 teams were decided in the qualifying stage of the tournament that concluded in November 2007. The draw to determine the composition of first-round brackets for the 2008 UEFA European Football Championship was made on December 2, 2007.

In summer 2008 thousands of football fans and supporters from across Europe will visit Austria and Switzerland to see who will win EURO 2008 and take the honour of best team in Europe. Austria and Switzerland have been hard at work in their preparations to throw a first-class football event, and were responsible for only the second-ever successful joint-bid in the history of the EURO. The first was for EURO 2000, which was jointly hosted by Belgium and the Netherlands, and the trend is set to continue when Poland and Ukraine host UEFA EURO 2012™.

The current world champions Italy have no small task with prevailing in what could be the most competitive Euro group - Group C - now known as the “Group of Death”. To add title of 2008 European Champions to their crown after being grouped with the Netherlands, France and Romania will be no easy feat, with all four teams fully capable of emerging victoriously from the group. The UEFA EURO 2008™ draw was not particularly kind the host countries either, with Switzerland facing off against the Czech Republic, Portugal and Turkey in their group, while Austria takes on the likes of Croatia, Germany and Poland.

The Germany – Poland match should be a fierce competition - with Poland making their first EURO appearance, they have a lot to prove to their neighbours. The news of German fans overrunning Wörthersee Stadion in Klagenfurt, Austria where they are playing both Poland and Croatia is well founded. The Klagenfurt’s proximity to Germany will surely result in many thousands of German football fans descending on the smallest of the eight EURO venues.
