About Olympique de Marseille

In 1993, Olympique de Marseille became the only French team to ever win the UEFA Champions League. They are the most popular and most titled club in the country and play out of the Stade Velodrome in Marseille, France. The club play in Ligue 1, having been relegated several times, most recently in 1994 following the match-fixing scandal dubbed the Affaire VA-OM. The scandal involved club president Bernard Tapie bribing opposing players of Valenciennes FC in order to prevent Olympiqe Marseille players from being injured before the upcoming Champions League tournament. The club returned to Ligue 1 two years later but have struggled to land a major title since. Founded in 1899, Olympique de Marseille have a record number of ten French Cup victories and have won eight Ligue 1 championships. They also won the Ciutat de Barcelona Trophy in 2005 and the UEFA Intertoto Cup in 2005 and 2006. Pape Diouf manages Olympique Marseille and midfielder Lorik Cana is skipper. Notable past team members include Jean-Pierre Papin, Didier Deschamps, Larbi Ben Barek, Franck Ribery and Josip Skoblar. The club's home kit consist of white jerseys with light blue accents and white shorts and socks, while the away kit consists of white and light blue striped jerseys and light blue shorts and socks.
