About Lyon - Olympique Lyonnais
Olympique Lyonnais are the reigning Ligue 1 champions, having won the title the last six consecutive seasons for a French league record. Officially recognized as a national football club in 1950, historians trace the origins of the club to its formation under a multisports club in 1899. Olympique Lyon won the Trophee des Champions in 1973 and consecutively from 2002 through 2007, the Coupe de France in 1964, 1967, 1973 and the Coupe de la Ligue in 2001. The club are managed by Alain Perrin and captained by midfielder Juninho Pernambucano. According to Forbes, Olympique Lyonnais are the richest football club in France. Notable players have included Sylvain Wiltord, Sidney Govou, Bernard Lacombe and Mario Coluna. The club's home kits consist of white jerseys with a navy and red stripe, white shorts and white socks while the away kits consist of gold jerseys with navy shorts and navy socks. The club, nicknamed Lyon, play out of Stade Gerland in Lyon, France. The stadium seats more than 43,000 and is considered an historic monument. The Olympique Lyon crest is a blue and red a shield with the letters "OL" and a gold lion. The club also has a successful women's team.
