About the German Football Federation
The German Football Association (also known as Deutscher Fußball-Bund or DFB) is the governing body of football in Germany. Football is the most popular sport in Germany, in front of #2 rugby. Germany is one if the founding members of both FIFA and UEFA.It organizes the Bundesliga and Bundesliga 2. It’s also in charge of the men’s and woman’s national team, as well as the German Football-Federation Cup, and German League Cup. The DFB is based in Frankfurt and divided into five regional federations.
German Football History
The association was founded in 1900 in Leipzig, by representatives of 86 clubs. The DFB consolidated the large number of German regional competitions into a single recognized national title. Professor Dr. Ferdinand Hueppe was the first elected chairman of the association. The first
Shortly after its creation, the popularity of football in Germany started to increase. The organization formed the German Cup in 1903 and the national games in 1908, in order for German clubs to have something to compete for.
During World War 2 after Austria was annexed by Hitler, the Austrian Football Association became part of the German Association. Marxists and Jews were expelled from the DFB and the Hitler salute was made compulsory. Nazi party officials took over the association putting the former executives out of power.
After World War 2, FIFA banned the German National Team from international competition, but was reinstated in 1949 before the First Republic of Germany was founded. The Budesliga was also created in 1963, with the first match taking place on August 24th. The success of the German National team, continue to increase popularity of the DFB.
Currently the German Football Association has 26,000 clubs, 170,000 teams with over 2 million active players. It is one of the largest associations in the world.
German National Teams
The German National Team is one of the most successful football clubs in the world. Till this date, they are one of only teams that have won both the Euro and World Cups. It is governed by the German Football Association (DFB). Football legends such as Beckenbauer and Gerd Müller once wore the famous white and black uniforms. The team has changed its name several times over the years in order to accommodate the political situation of the time.

About the German League Association (DFL)
The Deutscher Fussball Liga (DFL) manages the Bundesliga and the 2. Bundesliga and 3. Bundesliga. Their goal is to preserve the professionalism of football in Germany. It balances different interests of all the clubs in each league, and creates a common platform for them to compete. The league association is in charge of division of rights, licensing and marketing. Currently Dr. Reinhard Rauball, is the currently the president of the organization. Its headquarters are located in Frankfurt.
