federations and 21 regional organizations. It oversees the German Premier League, The Bundesliga, the men’s national team, woman’s national team, the German Football Federation Cup and German
League Cup. The founding members of both FIFA and UEFA helped organize the German Football League and the German Football Federation. The official mascot of the German Football Association is an
eagle with black feathers and a yellow beak by the name of Paule. Theo Zwanziger is currently the president of the DFB.
About the German Football Federation
The German Football Federation was founded in 1900 in Leipzig by representatives of 86 German clubs. Professor Dr. Ferdinand Hueppe became the first elected chairman of the DFB. Over
the
years the association became more organized and created the German Cup in 1903 and the national games in 1908. During the start of World War Two the DFB became less influential as Hitler
took
over. 1938 was a big year for the federation as Germany withdrew from hosting the World Cup and Austria became part of the German Federation.
Following World War 2 FIFA banned the DFB from international competition, but reinstated it on May 1949, two weeks before the Federal Republic of Germany was founded. The DFB was
legally
reinstated in 1950, and the Swiss Football Association became full members on September 22nd in Bruxelles.
The Bundesliga, the German Premier League was created in 1963, and helped spread football in Germany. From point on the German Football Association grew rapidly, with its membership
increasing in size almost yearly. It is currently the largest federation in the world with about 6.5 million players, 26,000 clubs, and 170,000 teams.
