Tottenham Hotspur football club was founded in 1882 by St. John’s Presbyterian Church, and became a professional organization in 1895, when joining the Southern League. Playing out of , their third stadium, the club immediately became one of the top teams in England, winning an FA Cup trophy and Southern League title in their first two seasons. During the next twenty years the team went up and down through different divisions, as they were able to win only a single title. After World War II Tottenham Hotspur’s manager Bill Nicholson made the team successful and led the Spurs to eight trophies in sixteen years. After his departure, the Tottenham success was put to a halt until Argentinean players Osvaldo Ardiles and Ricardo were signed and helped revolutionize the club. During the 1980s and 90s the club went through a period of coaching and management changes, and the team got sold to ENIC Sports PLC, owned by David Levy.
