The West Ham United Crest a proud symbol of West Ham
The West Ham United Crest proudly represents the history and traditions of West Ham FC. The crest has a crossed pair of rivet hammers; tools commonly used in the iron and shipbuilding
industry, which reflect the club’s origins as Ironworks FC. A castle was added in 1903 to West Ham’s crest and represents an important local building the Green Street House. The castle also
represents a contribution made by Old Castle Swifts FC, when West Ham used their turf as a practice field. The crest was redesigned in 1990 and features a wider yellow castle. The designer also
altered shape of the hammer heads and border, in order to give it a more substantial feel to the iconography.
