About Arsenal Football Club

Originally founded in 1886 as Dial Square, Arsenal FC are an association football club based in London, England who play in the English Premier League. Arsenal are London's most historic and successful team, and one of the most successful in all of England. Since the start of the 2006/07 season, Arsenal have played at the majestic Emirates Stadium, which seats 60,000 people. The club played at the monumental, historical landmark Highbury Stadium for 93 years prior to that but their supporters demanded more seating.

Arsenal are regarded as being one of Europe's biggest and most popular clubs, and are members of the G14 group of elite European clubs. Arsenal FC are currently managed by the legendary Frenchman Arsene Wenger, who has overseen a period of extended growth and success in his 11 years in charge.

Arsenal's World Class Squad

The Arsenal squad is comprised of some of the best English and international footballers in the world. Spanish footballer Cesc Fabregas is the club's rising star and is incredibly strong in midfield and considered by many to be the centre pillar of the team. William Gallas is the team’s starting central defender and has been instrumental in keeping scores low. Gael Clichy's outstanding defence and attack and creative crosses keep him in the centre of the action. Emmanuel Adebayor is Arsenal’s rocket striker - nobody can argue with a 30 goal season - but it is rumoured he will be transferred to AC Milan for 2008/09.

The Gunners: Never Relegated

Arsenal, also known as "The Gunners", have the honour of being the only club in the English top-flight to never to have been relegated. Since their promotion in the 1919 - 1920 season back to the old First Division, Arsenal have never played outside of the First Division / Premiership (EPL). No other club can make such a claim, and that brings the Gunners unbroken streak of being in the top flight to 88 years. Arsenal’s record during this time is excellent – they have only ever finished below 14th place seven times, and also have the highest average league finishing position for the period 1900 - 1999, with an average finish of 8.5.
