Facts & Background

                Club Career

McFaddden started his football career at SPL side Motherwell were he quickly established himself in the first team as a teenager and also became a firm favourite with the fans.

His impressive goalscoring form attracted the attention of several bigger clubs and in the summer of 2003 he joined English premier league side Everton for around £1.3million.

In his first season at Everton, McFadden struggled to break in to the starting eleven, but scored a debut goal for his new club in an F.A. cup game against Plymouth Argyle.

The following season 2004/2005 McFadden got more first team football and scored a handfull of goals as he tried to nail down a place in Everton's starting eleven but still struggled due to injury at times.

At the start of the 2005/2006 season there was much speculation surrounding McFadden's future at Everton after the signing of Andy Johnson from Crystal Palace, but McFadden decided to stay with David Moyes' Everton and fight for his place.

During the 2006/2007 season McFadden scored a spectacular goal in the last minute of a game against Charlton to ensure Everton of a place in the UEFA cup. The goal was later voted as Goal of The Season.

There was further speculation linking McFadden with a move away from Everton following the club's signing of Yakubu at the begining of the 2007/2008 season. In the New Year McFadden dedicated a goal against Middlesbrough to his former Motherwell team-mate Phil O'Donnell who collapsed and died during a league game. A few weeks later McFadden left Everton for £6million to join Birmingham City and work under former Scotland national team manager Alex McLeish.

McFadden made an instant impact at Birmingham City and scored two goals against Arsenal to effectively end their chances of winning the league title.

Following Birmingham's relegation from the premier league, many people expected Mcfadden to make a quick return to a premier league side but McFadden stuck with Birmingham City to help to gain promotion back to the top flight from the Championship.

          Scottish national side

McFadden earned his first Scotland cap during a far east tour in the summer of 2002.

Since then McFadden has become a heroic figure with the Scottish fans for scoring some memorable goals.

During his time for Scotland McFadden has so far been capped 41 times and scored 13 goals.

He is probably best remembered for scoring an amazing 35 yard goal away to France in a Euro 2008 qualifying match in October 2007, the match finished 1-0 for Scotland. He is also remebered for scoring the only goal against Holland in the first leg of a Euro 2004 qualifying play-off match.
