About the J. League

The Japan J-League, commonly known just as the 'J League', refers usually to the Division 1 of the Japanese Professional Football League. It consists of 18 clubs, and has been operational since 1993. Especially early on, the J. League had an influx of experienced foreign internationals like Zico and Dragan Stojkovic come into the league, and so has always had a high standard of football. The J. League (and indeed Japanese) style of play is fast, technical, attacking football, and although there are a few big dominant teams, the league is quite competitive.

Fantastic Japanese Football Stadia

The Japanese J-League boasts a fantastic array of stadiums. This is partly because of a few that were built at the inception of the J. League in order to promote the game, but mostly because of the amazing stadiums that were constructed for the 2002 World Cup, for which Japan were co-hosts with South Korea. As a result, there are several high-quality, new stadiums, with capacities of over 50,000. The teams also sometimes play at multiple venues – there are 24 venues for the 18 teams, with some of the bigger ties being staged at massive venues such as the Nissan Stadium (72,730) or Saitama Stadium (63,700).
