The
Canadian National Soccer Team represents the Canadian Football Association in international matches and competitions. The Canada Football Team - or the Canucks - have struggled to earn any type of recognition in Canada let alone anywhere else. Being that ice hockey is the main sport in Canada, their soccer programs were weak and underdeveloped. The Canadian men’s National Soccer Team has also had its experience with small international success. Les Rogues (the Reds) has qualified for various world cups. Beating USA twice (5-1) and (3-2) in 1957 but then to lose to Mexico. And once more in 1986, but was also defeated and sent home. The Canada National Football Team now is the best in the CONCACAF with their star players Pat Onstad and Julian de Guzman. Legends such as Graig Forrest and Randy Samuel also represent the good old way to play Canadian football. Now the Canadian National Football Team still stands strong finishing third place in the 2007 CONCACAF Gold Cup. The U-23, Canada’s youth team also qualified second just behind USA for the Olympic Games in Beijing.
Canada - Champions of CONCACAF Gold Cup
The Canidian Men’s National Soccer Team dominates the CONCACAF now, but in 2000 they did the unexpected and beat the title holder at the time Mexico. The Canucks surprised everyone when they decided to step it up in the 83rd minute and score one of the best goals in Canadian football history. Richard Hastings also put his spin on things when he took the game for good scoring within in the minute of extra time. This sent Les Rogues to crush Trinidad and Tobago in the semi- finals and face The Colombians. The South American style of soccer was no match for the Canadian National Football Team allowing Canada to raise the 2000 CONCACAF Gold Cup Trophy high and proud.
