Mexico National Football Team

The Mexico National Team represents the country of Mexico and the Mexican Football Federation (Federación Mexicana de Fútbol) in international football competitions, ever since 1922. Mexico’s first national team was formed in 1923 and played a series of exhibition matches against a representative of Guatemala. They are commonly nicknamed El Tri or Tricolor. The Mexican National Football Team’s home kits consist of a green shirt with red trim and white shorts, while their away uniform is comprised of a white shirt with red trim and green shorts.

Mexico’s first participation in a FIFA World Cup was in 1930 in Montevideo, Uruguay, not wining any of its matches. Tricolor lost to Argentina 3-0, Argentina 6-3, and 4-1 to France. It became the first team to score a goal in a World Cup game, and loose the match.

During the next two World Cups which El Tri attended, they continued their poor performance. In the 1950 World Cup, held in Brazil, Mexico lost the first three games of the preliminary rounds to Brazil, Yugoslavia, and Switzerland. In 1958, in Sweden, Mexico lost to Germany, but tied Wales. This was the first aggregate point which Mexico earned in international competition. Legendary striker Enrique Borja and goalkeeper Antonio “La Tota” Carbajal played for Mexico during this time period.

The Mexican National Soccer Team’s first win in international eventually came in 1962, against Czechoslovakia. They continued their success into 1970, when Mexico hosted the World Cup, and advanced past the first round of the World Cup. Sixteen years later, Mexico again hosted the World Cup and was able to get to the quarterfinals of the tournament.

Currently, Hugo Sanchez is the head coach of the Mexican National Football Team. Andres Guardado, Rafael Marquez and Pavel Pardo are the star footballers on the squad. They will be trying to qualify for the 2010 World Cup in South America.

Moments of Success for the Mexican National Squad

Despite not winning any titles during the FIFA World Cup competition, the Mexican National Soccer Team has won other major international competitions. In 1993 El Tri was second place in the Copa America. That same year they also won the CONCACAF Gold Cup after defeating the United States. In fact the Mexican National Football team has a total of seven CONCACAF Gold Cups. They also have won the FIFA Confederations Cup once in 1999, and were third place in 1995.

As Mexico marches towards the World Cup 2010 in South Africa, this OleOle section will keep you updated on Mexico match results, fixtures, line-ups and live scores, all the latest news about the Mexican football team, and how Hugo Sanchez is doing directing Mexico's squad.

Mexico sucks. Its all about slovakia. Kidding. Mexico is improving a lot but they still need to work on their forwards. Gio is not doing enough to be a starter. In my opinion I think that Omar
Bravo should start even though I hate him a lot. But he's good so he deserves it.

dont be so sure, alot off ppl seem to have a lack of knowledge for the Honduran team, they got many players in Europe with great talent; one of them being Suazo, former Inter di Milan striker and
a few other, last game they defeated Mexico so don't be that confident, itls going to be a hard game.
