About the Mexican Football Federation (FMF)
The Mexican Football Federation (FMF) is in charge of managing professional football in Mexico. The Mexican Football Federation is under the jurisdiction of the CONCACAF and FIFA. The FMF is based in Mexico City where its main tasks are to supervise all of Mexico’s National Teams and the First Division League. The FMF was one of the first federations in North America to professionalize football in 1943.
Mexican Federation History
The Mexican Football Federation was founded on November 27, 1927. The first president of the FMF was former football player Humberto Garza Ramos. The Mexican Football Federation affiliated to FIFA in 1929 and then to the CONCACAF in 1961. The Mexican Football Federation professionalized football in 1943 with the creation of the First Division, then the second division became the Primera “A” in 1994. The FMF supervises more than 4, 200 games a year and is also in charge of assigning more than 600 referees for professional matches.

About Primera Division Profesional
The Primera Division Profesional was created in 1943. The Liga Azteca is the only league outside CONMEBOL that has teams participating in the Copa Libertadores. The Primera Division Profesional is fully controlled by the FMF.
FMF Tournaments
Super Liga
The Super Liga is a tournament between teams from Mexico, the United States, and Canada. The FMF and the MLS founded this cup in 2007, and the winner of the competition is awarded the prize of one million dollars. The format is similar to that of the UEFA Champions League, but all the games are held in U.S. territory.
InterLiga
The Interliga is a football tournament between clubs from the Primera Division Mexicana to determine who is going to compete in the Copa Libertadores. The Interliga awards two spots to the Copa Libertadores.
