Juan Roman Riquelme's professional football resume is full of championships and awards. From taking the
Boca Juniors to the finals of the Copa Libertad and winning the Most Valuable Player of the Tournament award, to his current success with
Villarreal, he has proven to soccer fans that he is one of the elite midfielders in the world. He was able to overcome criticism for a poor performance in
Barcelona, and take his next team, Villarreal, to the knockout stages of the UEFA Champions League. He went on to become nominated in 2005 and 2006 for the FIFA World Player of the Year award.
However his success is not limited to club level, being an elite midfielder on the
Argentina national football team. He scored five times during the Copa America, in 2007 taking his team to the final round. In matches against
Peru and
Columbia he scored half the team's points.
Currently Juan Roman Riquelme continues to be successful on both the international and club levels.
