About Robinho

Robinho is the winger and second striker for Real Madrid and is known for his signature pedalada (step-over) dribbling skills and was dubbed by Brazilian football legend Pelé as his "successor." Born in Sao Vicente, Brazil as Robson de Souza, Robinho was just nine years old when he scored 73 goals in a season with the Portuarios indoor football team. In 2002 he began his professional career with Santos FC after playing for the club's junior side. That year Santos won the 2002 Campeonato Brasileiro, and Robinho gained attention for his seven successive step-over, penalty provoking play during the final match. Following his 2004 season in which he scored 21 goals in 37 appearances, won the league title with Santos and was named Brazilian Player of the Year, Robinho transferred to Real Madrid in 2005.

Robinho In Action

Brazil national football team since 2003, Robinho and his team won the FIFA Confederations Cup in 2005. This accomplishment came after the November 2004 kidnapping of his mother, Marina de Souza, who was released in December after payment of ransom. In 2006 he played with Brazil in the FIFA World Cup. In 2007 Robinho won his third league title with Madrid, the 2007 Copa America with Brazil and the 2007 Copa America Golden Boot award and best player honors.
