Founded in 1905, Chelsea Football Club play out of the Stamford Bridge stadium in the Fulham borough of London. Playing in the English Premier League for most of their history, the club hold three first division titles from 1945, 2005 and 2006. Chelsea FC also won the FA Cup in 1970, 1997, 2000 and 2007, the League Cup in 1965, 1998, 2005 and 2007, and the UEFA Cup Winners' Cup in 1971 and 1998. The team are managed by Avram Grant and are captained by centre back John Terry. Within the Premier League, Chelsea Football Club hold the record for the highest points total for a season, at 95, the fewest goals conceded during a season, at 15, the most victories in a season, at 29, and the longest streak of unbeaten home matches, at 75. The club's home kit consists of royal blue jerseys and shorts with white socks and the away kit consists of electric yellow jerseys, black and electric yellow shorts and black socks. The club's earliest crest depicted a retired British soldier, leading to the nickname the Pensioners. In 1952, an effort to revamp the club's image brought about a redesign to the crest based on the Chelsea borough coat of arms. Today the Chelsea FC crest depicts an upright blue lion holding a staff.

The main reason why Chelsea FC can become champs is due to the club's array of talent. The combination of Joe Cole, Frank Lampard and Deco is enough to make any coach put in his best defenseman. The leadership skills of Ballack will ensure the team will play as a unit. Petr Czech’s goalkeeping can prevent even the best strikers from scoring, as witnessed by his impressive performance last season. The only setback that team might have is Didier Drogba, Chelsea’s all time highest international scorer, who is recovering from an injury last season. However, this should not be a major problem as the Chelsea’s reserves are all full of talent. Backups such as the Ivory Coast star Salomon Kalou, who scored the equalizer against Manchester United after only 11 minutes of play, will be able to be as effective against English Premier League teams as the starters.

Chelsea started the 2008/2009 season strong, ranked number 1 in the EPL with a total of 10 points. Chelsea punished Bordeaux, beating the squad by a score of 4-0 and providing their new manager with his first Champions League victory. The squad also defeated Manchester City and Robinho by a score of 3-1 with goals from Ricardo Carvalho, Frank Lampard and first year Chelsea FC player Nicolas Anelka. Chelsea tied their arch rival Manchester United by a 1-1 while playing them at Stanford Bridge.
