Roberto Carlos

In 2007, Roberto Carlos da Silva signed on for two years with Turkish club Fenerbahçe after eleven seasons with Real Madrid. Fenerbahce won the Turkish Super Cup in Carlos's first official match with the team. The wingback was born in Garça, São Paulo, Brazil, and has played for the Brazil national football team in the FIFA World Cup three times, including in 2002 when Brazil won the championship. With 125 appearances and 19 goals for Brazil, Carlos was also a member of the national team when it took home the 1996 Olympic bronze medal for men's football, the FIFA Confederations Cup in 1997 and the Copa América title in 1997 and 1999. Carlos began his professional career with Brazilian club Palmeiras, with whom he won the Brazilian League title in 1993. Following a season with Inter Milan, Carlos transferred to Real Madrid in 1996. It was here that he would gain dual Brazilian-Spanish citizenship and break a club record for the most games played by a non-Spanish born player, with 330 appearances. While Roberto Carlos was on the team, Real Madrid won La Liga four times, the Spanish Super Cup three times, the UEFA Champions League three times, the Intercontinental Cup in 1998 and 2002 and the European Super Cup in 2002.
