Celtic FC

Celtic FC, also known as The Hoops and The Celts is a Scottish Premier League soccer team, which plays out of in Glasgow, Scotland. The stadium, in which they play, Celtic Park (also known as Parkhead), is the largest stadium in Scotland. The club was founded in 1887 by Brother Walfrid, as a fund raiser for the charity, The Poor Children’s Dinner Table. Walfrid came up with the name Celtic in order to reflect its Irish and Scottish roots. Celtic players wear a green striped jersey and white shorts at home, and a yellow jersey and green shorts when playing away.
Celtic FC has an ongoing, major rivalry with FC Rangers, which dates back all the way to their first meeting in 1888 in Celtic Park, when Celtic won by a score of 5-2. Over the years Celtic FC legends James McGrory and Billy McNiell helped The Hoops earn many championship titles. Currently striker Jan Vennegoor, midfieldermidfielder Shunsuke Nakamura and Captain Stephen "Mick" McManus are the superstars of the Celtic FC squad, and Gordon Strachan is the manager.

The recent success of Celtic

During the 2001 season, Celtic FC won the Scottish Cup and the Scottish Premier League for the first time in several seasons. The club repeated their success during the in 2004 season. When Strachan became the manager for Celtic FC, the club again won the Scottish Premier League. At the beginning of the 2007 season Strachan signedwith Jan Vennegoor and Thomas Gravesen after several players departed from the squad. Celtic FC was dominant in the season, as they won their second consecutive double over Dunfermline. They also qualified for the last 16 of the UEFA Champions League for the first time in their history. Nakamura was voted Scotland’s Player of the Year. Overall, Celtic FC has dominated the Swedish Premier League for the past six years.
