Spain National Football Team

The Spain Football Team, referred by many as the Furia Roja or La Furia is managed by the Real Federación Española de Fútbol. The Furia Roja had their best FIFA World Cup appearance in 1950 when they ended up in third place. In 1964 the Spanish national football team hosted and won their only European Champions cup. Spain also won the gold medal at the 1992 Olympic Games in Barcelona. Raul is the top scorer of all time for the Spanish football team, having scored 44 games in 102 matches. The captain for the Spain football team is the young but experience goalkeeper Ikar Casillas of Real Madrid.

Disappointment with Spain Results

Spain fans always have high expectations of the team's performance in international competitions but have been consistently disappointed. Statistically on paper Spain is composed of the best players in the world, like Fernando Torres, Cesc Fabregas, and Carles Puyol. Spainoften starts out well in international tournaments, but then struggle in the later stages. Their only major competition victory was the 1964 European Championship, which they also hosted. Their junior team won the gold medal when Barcelona hosted the 1992 Summer Olympics.

Spain - the Best Team in Europe

Spain were part of group D in EURO 2008 and competed against Greece, Russia and Sweden in the group stages. Their first match was against Russia at Tivoli Neu Stadium in Innsbruck Austria, which they won 3-0. Spain won the Group and also went on to the final where they beat Germany 1-0 to capture the EURO title - their first major competition win since 1964. Xabi Alonsowon best player of the tournament, and David Villa and Fernando Torres were stars for Spain, scoring many goals for the undefeated team.
