Club History

1974 Started out as the International Contract Specialists (ICS) and won the non-league Championships 1975 Revamped the National Football League and won the League and President's Cup

1977 Won the President's Cup 1979 Club lost ground and was relegated to Divison II


1982-1983 New Management Committee was constituted with old players like Rejab Ismail, Matthew Chin, Dollah Kassim and Shamsuddin Rahmat Geylang International was promoted to Division I


1984 Club President Kassim Chik financed team to survive Businessman Patrick Ang joined the Club and was one of its saviours, managing to successfully seek sponsors for the Club Geylang International became a household name. Top Players like Fandi Ahmad, Malek Awab, Borhan Abu Samah, Norhalis Shafik, Lim Tong Hai, Kadir Yahya, Sudiat Dali, Syed Faruk all represented the Club. The Club won almost all tournaments organised by the FAS 1988-93 Club won the FAS Premier League for six consecutive years.


1994 Club finished third after two guest clubs from Australia participated in the Premier League


1995 FAS announce the pull out from the Malaysia Cup a task force led by Mr Patrick Ang was set up to study the feasibility of having a pro league Singapore Professional Football League Pte Ltd was formed

  • November 26, 1998 - Geylang United FC organises 1st GUFC Golf Day at the Laguna National Golf and Country Club

Team of 1997

  • 1997 - The Eagles break its proud record of a 12-game unbeaten run by beating Jurong FC
  • Tiger Beer League Cup 1997 - The Eagles find their way to the final against league champions SAFFC and loses a tight match
  • July 1997 - Geylang United launch the opening of its multi-million dollar, four-storey Clubhouse in Bedok with the help of main sponsor Ponggol Marina

series title after a 1-1 draw.

  • November 9, 1996: THE GRAND FINALE - Geylang United FC officially

crowned as the very first champion of Singapore's professional league

  • Geylang beat SAFFC (the newly crowned Pioneer Series Champion)

3-0 at the National Stadium to be crowned Champion of Champions.

  • Geylang made it a double win by beating the same opponents for the

FA Cup

  • Jalal Talebi - who went on to become Iran's Head Coach in the World Cup 1998 - was the Head coach of the Eagles' inaugural season
