About the K- League

The K-League is South Korea’s professional football club league. The Korea Professional Football league currently has 14 club team members and it is the only professional league in South Korea. The league was renamed and reformed in 1994 to its current name and expanded the number of club teams. Busan, Jeju, and Pohang are the only 3 teams that have played in every season of the K-League since the league’s establishment.

K-League Results

The club team Seongam IIlhwa Chunma is the most successful football squad in South Korea’s K-League with seven crowns: 1993, 1994, 1995, 2001, 2002, 2003, 2006. Seongam IIhwa Chunma started playing in Seoul but after winning the third consecutive league title in 1995 the Korea Football Association decided that the three club teams that played in the capital had to me moved, so Seongam IIhwa Chunma moved to Cheonan. Chunma has also conquered one AFC Champions league in one occasion in 1996. The Korea Professional Football League does not have an official promotion and relegation system. Underneath the K-League exists the semi pro/amateur National League that was established in 2003 with 14 members. In 2006 the champion of the National League was eligible for promotion based on certain criteria but rejected the chance to play in the Korean Professional Football League.
