History of Athl.Bilbao

Club Overview

Athletic are based in Bilbao in Northern Spain in the Basque Country, Euskal Herria in Euskara, and have been in La Liga since 1928. They try only sign professional players native to seven Basque provinces, but have been known to sign players of Basque descendant born outside of the Basque Country. They have a very strong youth development program and believe highly in developing their younger stars to become full time professionals.

Club History

Athletic have won La Liga 8 times and the Copa Del Rey a massive 24 times.

Club Rivalries

Real Sociedad, when they're in the first division, but Real Sociedad is currently in Second division. Osasuna is now considered the Basque Derby.
