Stadium Overview

Classical stadium in the middle of Vršovice neighbourhood, on the banks of the mighty brook Botič, Ďolíček is home of Bohemians since 1932.

Stadium History

After the glorious return of Bohemians from the tour of Australia in 1927, it was clear the old Ďolíček stadium was not big enough to accomodate the growing crowds heading to Vršovice to see top football. The capacity was only 6000 and in 1930, during the match with bitter rivals Sparta, the gallery even collapsed. Director of local bank Zdeněk Danner financed the construction of what was to be called Dannerův stadion in his honour, but the fans have always sticked with the old name of the old stadium. Ďolíček (pronounced dyo-lee-check), which could be very roughly translated as little dinge because it was originally located on the very bottom of Vršovice valley.

The new stadium was opened on March 23, 1932 with a double match: Bohemians vs. Slavia and Viktoria Žižkov vs. Teplitzer FK in front of the crowd of 18000.

In 1970 the new stand and the brand new lighting system was finished (players complained that the corners of the pitch are almost utterly dark though).

The capacity was cut to 9000 in 2003 due to the football association project of modernisation of stadiums nationwide. During the crisis in 2005 when the club went bankrupt the lighting columns were taken down and the rumours of the demolition spread. However, the club was saved by the fans and in August 2007 the first league football returned to Ďolíček.

The capacity was further reduced to 7500 in summer 2007 when the stadium was all-seated for security reasons. The hard-core fans in the former standing zone (kotel pod hodinama) never sit and this measure only made it less comfortable for them.
