Bernabéu Stadium Overview

The Santiago Bernabéu is located in northern part of Madrid, Spain. Originally called Estadio Chamartín, stadium is now called the Santiago Bernabéu named in honour of Real Madrid's former president.

Estadio Santaigo Bernabeu is the home stadium for Real Madrid, one of the most successful football clubs in the world. The Bernabéu's capacity has changed frequently, peaking at 120,000 in 1953 after an enormous expansion. Since then there have been a few renovations and reduction in size. The most recent changes remove the remaining standing areas 1998/99 to meet UEFA's regulations prohibiting standing at matches for all UEFA competitions. This, along with one more expansion in 2005, resulted the stadium's current capacity of 80,354 seats. A plan to add a retractable roof to the Santiago Bernabéu has been put in place.

Originally called Estadio Chamartin after Real Madrid's previous stadium, the massive Bernabeu was opened in December 1947. Real Madrid officially adopted today's official name - Estadio Santiago Bernabeu - in January 1955.

Arriving at the stadium of Real Madrid is not difficult. There are multiple means of public transport in Madrid that reach the stadium.

Madrid Metro

There is a Metro stop right at Santiago Bernabeu. This line crosses the whole city and it can be accessed from different points of the capital, either by subway or by the corresponding station. For example, if you live near the line 5, you can go up to Alonso Martinez or until Aluche to catch the Blue Line (10). From those two points you can get to the stadium without any problem.

To get there from a more central location, the line 3 has connections with 10 lines. Line 1 also you can bring to the stadium, from across Plaza Castilla.
