Tim Howard joined Everton on a season long loan in the summer of 2006.

He arrived from Manchester United, where he had fallen behind Edwin van der Sar in the goalkeeping pecking order.

Nonetheless, he made 77 appearances for United before agreeing the switch to Everton.

He began his career in his native USA, playing for the New York/New Jersey Metrostars, where he eventually replaced USA keeper Tony Meola as the first choice in goal.

He moved to Man Utd in 2003 and replaced Fabien Barthez.

Three years later he arrived at Everton and gave consistently impressive performances in goal.

Indeed, such was his impact that in February 2007 Howard's move was made permanent. An undisclosed fee was agreed with Manchester United and the keeper signed a lucrative four year deal.

In the summer of 2007, Tim collected his first piece of silverware since his move to Goodison. The goalkeeper was an instrumental figure for the USA as they beat Mexico 2-1 to win the CONCACAF Gold Cup.

A finger injury sustained on international duty disrupted Howard's start to the 2007/08 season with the goalkeeper missing four games including one against his former team Manchester United.

But once he returned Howard enjoyed an excellent season. Ever reliable and regularly producing excellent saves, the keeper was one short of equalling Neville Southall's record of 15 clean sheets in the league.
