Trinidad and Tobago Football Team - The Soca Warriors

The Trinidad and Tobago football team is managed by the Trinidad and Tobago Football Federation. The country of Trinidad and Tobago is comprised of islands in the Caribbean ocean and is sometimes called T&T. The T&T national football team's nickname is the Soca Warriors, and just about everyone on the islands uses Soca Warriors to refer to their national pride. The Warriors have produced a few international football stars who play in European leagues such as the English Premier League like Dwight Yorke and Shaka Hislop, and reached the first round in the 2006 FIFA World Cup under the management of Leo Beenhakker who now coaches the Polish national team.

For the 2006 FIFA World Cup Trinidad and Tobago buried the ghosts of 1973 and 1979 and overcame Bahrain qualify for final spot in Germany and became the smallest country ever to qualify for a FIFA World Cup Finals. But T&T’s World Cup qualifying has left many sad fans in the past, and many were disappointed by the team’s failure to progress out of the 2002 final qualifying after making it through the semi-finals with one of the best teams on paper in the history of the country. and comprising some of the best players ever - on paper.


Soca Warriors Results

The Soca Warriors, as the Trinidad and Tobago football team is called by T&T fans, will again do their best to qualify to play in the 2010 World Cup in South Africa. The 2010 World Cup campaign started in the the Second Round (since the team qualified in 2006) with home and away matches against Bermuda. T&T lost the first game at home 1-2 on June 15 but bounced back to beat Bermuda away with a 2-0 victory. The Soca Warriors now progress to the Third Round 3-2 on aggregate.

T&T now plays in WC Group 1 alongside the United States, Guatemala and Cuba. The top two teams from this group will advance the Fourth Round of qualifying with four other teams from other groups. The top three teams then qualify for the World Cup while the fourth placed team enters a home and away playoff against the fifth placed CONMEBOL team for a qualification spot.
