US Soccer Women's Team

The US Soccer Women's Team represents the US in all women's international matches and competitions. The United States Soccer Federation (USSF) is the governing body of the US Women's National Team.

The US WNT is arguably one of the most successful teams in the history of women's soccer having won the first-ever FIFA World Cup, then called the M&M Cup, in 1991, and in 1999. The WNT have never placed lower than 3rd place at a World Cup. The US Women's soccer team also has won 3 of 4 Olympics for women's soccer. They won the first games in 1996, won silver in 2000, and won gold medals in 2004 and 2008.

Michelle Akers, Julie Foudy, Brandy Chastain, Mia Hamm and Kristine Lily are some of the team's legends and are also among the greates women that ever played the sport.

The USA Women's Soccer Team counts on a large number of great players and some stars of the current squad are: Abby Wambach, Amy rodriguez, Hope Solo, Natasha Kai and Tobin Heath

The US Women take part in the Four Nations Tournament in China every year, The Algarve Cup in Portugal, and The Peace Queen Cup in South Korea.

In 2009, players from the US WNT will play for teams in the new Women's Professional Soccer League, WPS, which kicks off on the first weekend of April.
