Ernst Happel Stadium Overview

Vienna's Ernst Happel Stadium will hold several important matches as a host venue for the UEFA EURO 2008 football tournament. The stadium will host all of the Austrian national team's first round Group matches and the EURO 2008 final match on 29 June, 2008.

The new VIP club that fits 900 people is available in time for EURO 2008. Almost 37 million euro has been invested by the City of Vienna and the Austrian federal government to renovate and improve Ernst Happel Stadion.

Ernst Happel Stadium's seating capacity has been increased to 51,000 especially for the UEFA EURO. The field has been fitted with special lawn heating, and two complete, hi-tech video walls have been installed. The stadium now includes a huge media center for press, TV and radio located under the stands.

Ernst Happel Stadium is the home stadium of the Austrian national team and is also used for important club matches.

Stadium History

Ernst Happel Stadium in Vienna was named after the legendary player and coach Ernst Happel. Happel led Feyenoord to win the European Champions Cup. Located in Vienna's Prater park, it's one of Europe's most modern football grounds. It hosted the 1995 UEFA Champions League final between Ajax and AC Milan.

Sights

Prater
The Prater is Vienna's most popular and visited fair. Attendants can enjoy a great view of Vienna from the giant Ferris wheel, or do some sports and relax in an expansive area of parks, forest land and fields.

Vienna Opera House
is situated in the Frist District of Vienna at the southern end of the Kärntnerstrasse. The State Opera House was built from 1861 to 1869 by August von Sicardsburg and Eduard van der Nüll.

Taxi:
The taxis in the larger cities are provided with an officially controlled meter (basic fee in Vienna is € 2.-/daytime and € 2.1/night). The rate is calculated according to kilometers driven, as well as time. In Vienna, no additional fee is charged for luggage. For taxi rides from Vienna to the airport (please indicate 'taxi to airport' when ordering) the sum of about € 10.- is added to the fare to cover the return journey.

Airport-Taxis are taxis specially designated for transport only to and from the airport. They must be reserved in advance and charge a fixed price (incl. luggage) without a surcharge for the empty journey.
