Letzigrund Stadium Overview

Letzigrund Stadium, the home of FC Zürich, will be hosting 3 matches for the UEFA EURO 2008. It was one of the biggest stadiums in Switzerland with the main pitch being 105 by 68 meters with more than 11,605 seats.

Letzigrund Stadium opened on February 22 1925, and has been reconstructed several times in order to increase the stadium's capacity.

For the UEFA EURO 2008, the stadium will host Group C matches.

Stadium History

Letzigrund Stadium opened February 22, 1925 owned by the FC Zürich football club. During the Great Depression, ownership changed to the city of Zürich in 1937 which has operated the stadium since then. It underwent extensive remodelling in 1947, 1958, 1973, and 1984. Lighting was added in 1973. The first open air concert was in 1996. Currently, Letzigrund Stadium is hosting the Euro 2008.

By train
More than 1,900 trains halt at Zürich’s centrally located main station every day. Frequent and direct services to all the large Swiss municipals and major European cities enable passengers to reach their destinations quickly, easily and comfortably.

By plane
Zürich’s international airport is served by regular scheduled flights from every continent and from most of the countries and major cities in the world.

The journey from the airport to the city center is just ten minutes by train (services every 15 minutes) or around 20 minutes by taxi.

The taxi ranks are located directly by the exits at the Arrivals terminals 1 and 2. The trip by taxi from the airport to the center of Zürich costs around CHF 50 ( €35).
