Stadium Overview
White Hart Lane is the home of Tottenham Hotspur FC. It is situated in Tottenham, North London.
In 2006 minor alterations to the seating configuration increased capacity to 36,200 all-seated. However, Tottenham are currently developing plans for a larger stadium, which may involve expanding White Hart Lane's capacity or moving to a new site. Supporters often refer to the ground as "The Lane" or "WHL".
Stadium History
Tottenham Hotspur moved to their current home, White Hart Lane, in 1899. Their first game there, watched by a crowd of just over 5,000, resulted in a 4-1 home win against Notts County. By 1923, the ground was enlarged to accommodate 50,000 covered spectators. Development of the East Stand finished in 1934, further increasing its capacity to around 80,000. 1953 saw the introduction of floodlights, which were renovated again in the 1970s.
In the early 1980s the West Stand was re-built and later that decade the East Stand re-furbished and the flood-light pylons removed. The North and South stands were re-congured to all-seater stands in the mid. 90s, and impressive 'Jumbotron' screens were installed at either end of the ground.
The club is currently considering plans for a larger stadium and Tony Winterbottom, who worked on development of Arsenal's Emirates Stadium, is now leading the development project.
